Newbie with some Hatfield McCoy questions
#1
Hey guys sorry for asking again, but i searched and couldnt really find anything that really answered my questions. I am a new ATV owner, I have ridden many times before but just bought my first atv (im 20), and it is bone stock. so questions 1 is when riding at Hatfield Mccoy do you need to have a winch, different tires, anything else along mods to ride there on the easy/moderate trails? I will be bringing my girlfriend and she will probly be riding another stock atv and i just dont want her to feel like we are unprepared or are going to get stuck out on a trail ( she has anxiety disorder that causes her to flip out when things like this happen
). So i guess question 2 is do you think 2 stock ATV's is enough to go around and have some fun for a long weekend? I dont know if most people have a winch or better tires im just trying to be prepared. I also would like some reccomendations on places to stay/campgrounds ( I like the good old wilderness but she would need a shower after a day or 2 plus maybe if we get muddy a camp ground with a shower?)
Anyways sorry for the long post i just hate being under prepared for things, and just couldnt find any real information on these subjects. I have heard a ton of good things about this place so i wanted to give it a try this summer when I have a week or 2 off.
Thanks in advance, and im pretty sure i will have more questions as my questions are answered
thanks again

your good stock is fine
no winch needed , easy trails are real easy
there are many parts of H~M trails
here is the website for the trails it will show you the lodges also
http://www.trailsheaven.com
my recommendation on where to stay is the big bear lodge they just added a new cabin in the woods called tranquility, ride right from the cabin or there lodges
http://www.bigbearlodgewv.com
any place you pick make sure you can ride to the trail head some places are on the edges of the system so you have to trailer everyday to the trail head.. so defintly watch for that.............
H~M has awesome trails, views, and people
hope you have a great time

the views from rockhouse trails are said to be the best
every trail has a wicked cool view of the mountains and the valleys old and new coal mines, waterfalls, the rock house,
the trail goes from the town of gilbert to the town of man.
moderate trails are still wide, safe, trails
you can also call jeff at the big bear lodge he knows the whole trail system inside and out he is very involved in the H~M trails system lived there his whole life, and he'll tell you where to stay if you don't want to stay in gilbert.....just call and leave a message for jeff or tina they will not lead you wrong....
Good luck and a Great Trip

Rockhouse is cool but for a beginner I would recommend Pinnacle Creek or Indian Ridge. I found the trails at Rockhouse to be more extreme than the other two. Pinnacle Creek has outstanding views and laid back riding perfect for a beginner wanting to enjoy being out on the trails without any worries. No matter where you choose HMT is a great place to ride. Have fun and enjoy your new machine. P.S. Post pics when you get back.

I have ridden rockhouse 2 times and I am going back next weekend. Its not the easiest system, but the easy and moderate trails are nothing to worry about. There are some steep sections on them, but nothing extreme...but maybe you and the gf would enjoy a more leisurely ride at another system. the only other section i have been to was bear wallow. And i burried my bike 3 times in the first hour. MUDDY when we were there at least. Sure you could go around the big holes...but what fun is that? I run pretty much stock, but i do have a winch and bighorns, but stock is not a problem at all. Just stay out of the deep holes because they are DEEP. As in you need 30+" tires, a lift, and relocated radiator to go thru some of the ones i saw. I thought bearwallow was the hardest portion though.
