Default 2 stroke or 4 stroke ????

Thinking of picking up a dirtbike back in the day before we bought our quads i use to have a rm 125 with the 2 stroke. So my question is since everything now is 4 stroke what is the major difference between the 2 really want that powerband feel of the 2 stroke again.I have a raptor 700r and it is no comparison to the 2 stroke's power band. Was thinking of the kx250 this time.
Anyone have the two that could let me know the pro's and con's between them. Not looking to race just hit the trails with some power.

Not to many 2 stroke anymore, but the general rule is 2 stroke have more power per cc. In motor cross racing it takes a 250cc 4 stroke to race in the 125cc 2 stroke class and a 450cc 4 stroke to race in the 250cc 2 stroke class.

4 stroke out last the 2 strokes in long running w/ less issues for sure but as mentioned it's hard to beat a 2 stroke inthe power area and they are lighter.

The new big 4 strokes have plenty of power....gods plenty.....but they will likely never replicate the rush of power you get when you wind out a 2 stroke.

Not sure about the 2 strokes do not last as long idea, I see 2 stroke sleds with 10,000 miles on them many times. I have a Rotax 500 Fan Cooled twin Ski-doo Touring with 8,500 miles and it reads 125lb on each clylinder still and runs great.

Not sure if I will get that many trouble free miles out of a 4 stroke ATV.

You need to do more to your Raptor as far as upgrades go and you will be surprised at the power potential that there is available. Not saying it will be two stroke snappy but there are plenty of Raptors out there that will run with any two stroke! One thing for sure is the Raptor will out last a two stoke esp in stock to mild built form! Quads are a totaly diffrent ballgame than dirt bikes! I used to have a Honda 250R and tho a fun bike don't miss fiddling with it every time you want to ride, sure is nice to just hop on a turn key bike!

There are quite a few 3 or 4 year old ATVs on this forum with 12K to 14K and more miles on them and still going fine. My buddy uses ATVs in his business daily and he has some with over 20K miles on them and never had the motor apart. He runs Honda ATVs and Kabota side by sides.

The raptor is bone stock nothing was done to it.It has plenty of top end speed actually to much really dont need to do 75mph! Looking for the punch from 0 to 40 mph like the 2 stroke. I never had any luck with the rm always putting in rings and pistons .But then again I was 17 and would just beat it all day.
