Parking Brake Q
#1
Hey all,
Noobie question, and I have a lot of them... When my quad is parked in the garage I have been leaving the parking brake on. Does this cause any additional wear to the breaking system? I could just find a chock, the floor is close to level (as a garage floor is) so it is not a big deal. Do you keep the rear brake pulled and clipped?
Thanks and glad to have a place to ask my noobie questions!

i just leave it in neutral. its not going anywhere without the brake on. could possibly bleed off as time goes on. The pressure of the brake fluid is pushing against some rubber seals that could weaken releasing the preasure, but they may not too.

If it's not rolling when in neutral I'd leave it out of gear and no parking brake. If your quad has a park position in the transmission I'd put it in park. If on a trailer or any slope I'd use both the parking brake and the park position in the tranny. Just my .02 worth.

I leave mine in neutral in the garage so I can easily push it around and move it. All my parking brakes are cable actuated....so I dont see a wear issue. None the less I see no reason to use them on flat ground. Even on the trail I just turn the quad off and leave it in 1st gear.....never had one roll away.
Parking brake only gets used when trailering......JUST in case.

One thing I've noticed at least with PoPos is that the single lever system that brakes both front and rear makes a fantastic parking brake. I've never been able to get a PoPo to move with a parking brake on. All the two lever brake systems I've been on could be pushed with the rear only parking brakes.

That has to be a serious issue when hauling, even strapped in nice and tight? The Polaris atvs have single levers? We don't have a dealer anywhere near me so I didn't check them out, just looked at the "big 4." Where is the single lever? Do you have a foot operated brake?
