Sprayers - your thoughts?
#1
i searched archives for discussion on sprayers one might mount or pull behind an ATV for weeds/watering/insecticides... not much there : (
so, any thoughts about your experience, what you purchased or found to be a good multi-use setup? considering a rack-mounted, 15 or 25 gallon; thought booms might be nice for fertilizers but not sure about its durability.
It's not gonna break me, but the prices range from $100 to $500, so i don't want to sputter with the wrong thing out of the gate.

Have you already checked out Fimco and Kolpin and the like? I have not used them and would also really appreciate any reviews if anyone has. I was looking into the same thing.
And hey, anyone else noticed, or maybe just a Northeast thing, I have NEVER seen so much Poison Ivy as this years young "crop?" I was thinking about mass destruction technologies and this idea came about?

i have looked at both; also "north star", think they might be from around these parts, too. so far, i've probably narrowed it down to a 15 gal. tank; might have to refill a few times but won't waste as much by over-mixing. probably will go boom-less, they seem to break/fault over short time if i recall comments from different places. will probably pick up this weekend. for fertilizer, will spread pellets or something... the spot sprayer will likely serve my needs for weed killing and tree spraying (i think).
one more comment - dont think i'll look too hard for 'used' due to the leaking and such, unless i find one next-to-new.

I have a 26 gallon sprayer that I bought from Northern Tool. It is a boom less model that you change the tip on the wand to convert it from a spot sprayer to a 12' wide sprayer. I did end up buying a 4' wide two tip boom for it because you had to drive real slow with the single tip in order to get proper coverage. Also the single tip was hard to control when the wind blew and the 12' path is too wide, the boom now covers about 8'. Another thing I did was to place a ball valve on one of the spray tips so that you can spray a 4' wide path when needed. I would go for the 15 gallon model, when I put 20+ gallons in mine the front end lifts up enough that it triples the turning radius on my 600. I mounted my tank to a piece of plywood and then drilled a few holes in the plywood that line up with holes in the rear rack. To hold it in place I have two bolts with wing nuts that I put through the holes into the rack and I'm ready to go in under a minute. If you have a Tractor Supply near you you can buy 2-4-D chemical in 1 and 2.5 gallon jugs very cheap compared to retail packaged chemicals. Use LV400 in spring and fall, and AM400 during the hot summer months. Don't waste your time on liquid fertilizer, use regular granular fertilizer, not the weed and feed. Hope this helps you some.
