Smile Honda Trx 250 - 250es stator wires

Hi. Im working on a 1985 Big Red 250es.I bought a 1987 trx 250 motor to replace the 85.The stator wires were burnt outside the Stator cover and the plug was melted on the 87. Im splicing in the plug from my 85..Does anyone know if it makes a difference which yellow wire gets spliced into which yellow for the alternator? The pulse generator and exciter coil were all color coded as such. The 3 yellow wires are all the same(not color coded).I would think that it would matter but I would also think that they would have color coded them different or added different colored stripes to the wires.I dont want to fry anything.Does anyone know for sure?I would really appreciate the help. The motor ran fine before the fire.It will save me from pulling the case off if someone knows. Thanks

Did you ever get this figured out? I have a similiar issue with an sx. I get the proper ohms - .7 or so across the yellows at the connector (alternator coil) and the proper ohms across the bl/y to g/w for the pulser - think around 360, but i also get some continuity across the g/w to g. There is no direction in the honda manual for this test tho. And no spark.
On a running Machine i tested there was no continuity for this test. I have rebuilt the top end and started the rig numerous times just to hear it run. Finally got to ride about 5 min after getting everything together and it died in the drive. Now no spark.
Any ideas?

Hi, Im afraid Im not real good at electrical systems, but I did get my problem solved. It does not matter on the yellow wires. Are you sure its not the CDI?Good Luck on your problem.Would you believe mine quit after I had it going?I checked the plug fire all good, plug had plenty of fire.I replaced it anyway for the heck of it and vroom.Plug was bad yet fired.WTH.Anyway,You might try switching out the pulsar and exciter coils.Electrical problems can be very frustrating like the plug issue I had.Good Luck to you.Hope you figure it out
