ok was ok ridin today and in the woods my battry went dead!! had to satrt atv with the pull rope an got it back to house charged battry up is there ANYWAY i can check to see if my atv is charging ?? I called my polaris dealer but naturly they told my No to jst bring it in and they"ll check it out for me!!! i know on some cars you can disconet the battry whyl it is running and if it dies it isn"t charging... so i tryed that took the battry OUT and it still stayed running !!???? IDK...

First thing! Do not run your polaris without a battery connected! The battery acts as a buffer for the charging system. You could risk blowing out the lights,rectifier,ecm/cpu and what-not. To test your charging system just use a voltage meter at the battery. Should be pushing 12.5v min. to around 15v. max. I'd say your charging system is working since it stayed running but I'd still test it to see what kind of output your getting. At idle around 12.5v-13v, at 3000 rpm you should see at least 13v-14.4v Also have your battery load tested to give you an indication of it's condition. A couple bad cells could make all the difference. Let us know what you find out, and what year machine are we talking about?
