Back from Jackman, Maine
#1
We had a great vacation in Maine last week. Got to ride 250+ miles. Trails were not too technical and there were a lot of spots where you could see far enough down the road to open it up for a while. Tried to launch the boat but the engine (that had started a week before we left) wouldn't go. Guy in town cleaned out the carb and it ran better when we went fishing a couple times. Had rain on Sunday night and into Monday so we drove over to Greenville, ME on the southern end of Moosehead Lake. We ate at the Flatlanders Pub. The last time we were there was when my oldest son was 7-8 months old. Had a great meal. We rode from Jackman to Pittston Farm on Tuesday. Almost hit a cow moose that ran out in front of me when I was doing about 30. Got a pic as it wandered off. The ride was about 60 miles to get there. My metal rack extender that I bought for the rear box of the X2 broke at the welds so we had to velcro strap everything down to get it back the 60 miles we rode. We took a ride to the US/Canadian border and stopped about 100 feet from the gates. Didn't have passports so I didn't want to go in the visitor's center. On the way back there was a partridge in the middle of the trail. I gave him a few cluck sounds and he fanned out his feathers and started strutting. Stopped as soon as I tried to get a good pic. Nice ride. My wife and I went out on Thursday and drove south towards West Fork. Never got all the way down. We were running out of daylight. I took my wife out on Friday night and we saw a young bull moose in a field. All in all it was a good time. It was great to be able to ride from our cabin out into the backwoods of Maine.
