Wet sanding plastic HELP
Alright, I am trying to re-finish the plastics on my '00 Scrambler 500. I went out and bought the following things:
-320 Grit wet/dry sandpaper
-600 Grit wet/dry sandpaper
-800 Grit wet/dry sandpaper
-1200 Grit wet/dry sandpaper
-Turtle Wax Polish Compound
-Plastic X
So I start out with the 320 to remove the deeper scratches and work my way up to 1200. I stop sanding with certain grits until the surface feels smooth to sand. Once I'm done sanding with the 1200 I hit it with some Compound. I did this three times and got some shine but not nearly enough. It was still dull even after applying the Plastic X a few times.
My question is...what am i doing wrong? I think its because I am not using the proper grades of Paper. Can someone please steer me in the right direction? The jump from 320 to 600 and 800 to 1200 seem kind of a big jump to me.
Thanks!

I have heard of this process being done, you did it all correct, except for the final finishing, you need to use a good air powered buffer (electric ones dont spin good enough) and some rubbing compound to bring the gloss and shine back before putting the X on, use a foam bonnet on the wheel, the cloth one heats up the plastic too much. That should get you a smoother, shinier base to work with. I am in the process of restoring some scratched plastic on a 400ex, so good luck to both of us !!
