Buying me a YFZ 450
#1
Alrighty so I'm 16 and I've wanted a yfz for many years. I just recently got a second job and can now afford it. My dad doesn't want me to get one so I'm trying to figure out if I can purchase one myself without being 18.... I didn't think I could, but a buddy of mine thought I could and I dont have any clue on how too. So I was wondering if you guys could help me out? I live in Iowa if that makes a difference. Thanks for any help.
-My plan is to buy it off craigslist

I will approach this from different perspective....
Does your friend accommodate you if you **** off your parents and they kick you out from home when you followed your friends advise and not your parents?
So first figure out why your father doesn't want you to have one?
If you have no riding (2 or 4 wheels) experience then I can understand his concern.
If you have riding experience then well, still figure out why not.
If you are experienced rider with several years on bigbore then 450 sounds ok but if you are beginner then 450 can get you trouble in hurry (I have rode 2 wheel bikes all my life and I still get "uuhhh.. ohh ****... slap to forehead dumb" moments with my 800 Outty. I should know better not to go wild as I have broke my legs with motorcycle accident so I have had my fair share of hospital visits)
Do you have money to pay atv insurance and your own insurance?

First off , I will second that previous note above about your riding experience... If you have none your making a mistake buying this quad. Things can get real shitty for you real quik.
Second hand, strictly on purchasing one, you would need cash in hand and buy one used.
After you turn 18 a dealership will not touch you unless you have cash money in hand around 7,800 give or take. There not going to risk financing you one for you have no credit line. Don't think your boy or father will co sign for you to take the wrapp when you start missing payments otherwise. Give it some time, get your foot threw the door and maybe with time pops will help you out.
Third note, I know reality's a motherfu*ker aint it.
If thats your goal remember, cash in hand, private dealer...

I've rode quads all my life and I had a yfz450 before but that was when I lived with my mother. So I have had plenty of experience and my father just doesnt like them because my brother broke his arm while racing, but he's fine so I dont see the big deal

Well then, if you get one then you need to prove you are not like your brother and break yourself and give your dad more reasons to hate quads.

When I was sixteen a car was more important to pick up chicks and get to work. First big ticket toy purchase I was 21 years old. I could be older then your dad. The part that hurts the most is the depreciation and the Tax Man.
