Default To many warning sensors nowadays

First was my "engine check" light on my truck came on, I brought it in and it was a bad $100 senor that monitors a part that WAS working Fine! They wanted $200 for the sensor and labour, I just paid the $60 for them finding the problem and drove the truck for 3 years and finally the engine check light went out and that was 2 years ago.

Now My ABS light on my Van comes on some days and some days not. The Brake Pads and lines are all good the brake fluid is up with no leaks and the van stops on a dime. I,m not even bring it in to get looked at this time.

Sometime black tape over the warning light is the answer.

I had one on my Ranger for about 7 years. To pass inspection, I'd unhook the battery for about 10 miutes, hook it up and get the inspection. Usually stayed off for about 1/2 day. Since it was a 95, I couldn't go to someplace like AutoZone and get it checked out. Everything worked fine. No missing, gas mileage was the same, ran great. At one point was considering just unplugging the bulb. Then one day, it went off. And stayed off.

Then there was the door sensor. Ford figured instead of a little button, we'll put a sensor on the firewall behind the dash. So, half the time it though the door was open. Took the dome light out cause it would stay on. The ding reminding me the door was open would last anywhere from a few seconds to (the longest time) 1 hour. Good thing the stereo worked.

I like the old school temp sensors, when you seen steam coming from the hood that told you that you are over heating.

If your brake pedal goes almost to the floor and the car does not stop like it once did ,that told you that you have a brake issue.

If your door rattles, that told you that you did not close it hard enough.

To hel! with all these red hearings.

even worse- you cant sell a car privately in mass to another person with the abs light on- well, you can, but it'll fail inspection and the new owner can make you pay for any repair to bring the car up to inspection standards. Any dash light that's on will cause it to fail inspection.

I only know this because I was sued by a guy a while ago who I sold a truck to, which failed the inspection because of ball-joints.
He called and told me I had to replace them- I told him to go pound sand-
he sued me and won. Regardless if the B.O.S. states "as-is".

In mass, any vehicle sold for over $1500 is exemp from the "as-is" clause.

The only warning I've had in a long time was a couple of days ago when my truck told me I was low on washer fluid.

i hear you! i prefer the old school lights. we called them "idiot" lights back in the day. in other words, if it came on, you idiot, you ain't been checking out your vehicle very well.....
but out of today's lights/sensors, the one that really pisses me off is the "low tire pressure" alarm/light. really? 1 psi differential? it constantly comes on/off with the changing seasons. i wonder who the doofus was that invented that one! really? "we" need lights/alarms for low tires? c'mon! thanks big brother(govt).

TLC if your van is front wheel drive you could have a hub bearing going bad confusing the sensor from my past parts store experience that sounds like hub/wheel bearing

I had the ABS light come on on my F150 a while back. It turned out to be a smashed wire. It took me all of 5 minutes to repair and prevent it from happening again. A couple of .10 cent butt splices fixed it.

Look on your rear differential. There is a sensor plugged into it with 2 wires in a loom coming out. Mine was smashed in between the bed and diff by the weight of my 850 plus camping equipment and a trailer with another 800 behind me on a 800 mile trip.

I cut the wires, rerouted them and splice them back together. Good as new.
