How do you secure your quads?
#1
I live in an apartment and am going to get a storage facility large enough for me to park the trailer in a garage space to protect the quads and the trailer from sunlight and from being tampered with, like I think they could be if in an RV, or boat parking spot simply behind the gate and covered.
While camping, I was going to buy a 5/16, grade 30 chain from Home Depot and a Boron Carbide Master lock, just to keep them from being pushed away easily. I'll run the chain thru the trailer rail, or around my trucks axle. I wish there was a way to feel totally secure, but I think based upon my situation, I am doing everything I can. I plan on getting insurance too, which will pay cash value for a stolen quad [s] or trailer, which would be very helpful in replacing stolen stuff, but that is $60 a month for two quads.
What are you doing to protect your investment? How to you keep your quads from walking away when your camping, RV'ing?

5/16" chain isn't thick enough. Believe me, I know. They cut mine with bolt cutters. A thicker chain and a suitable lock would take care of it. Now I use a chain that's over 1/2" thick. I had a regular sized lock and they cut that too, so you need something stronger. I use one that the shackle is about 3/4" in diameter.
And you're paying way too much for insurance. Progressive costs me about $100 a year for my quad. That's less than $8 a month.

I can't access the website right now but I got my stuff from lockitt.com That's lockitt with two T's. Maybe they went out of business, or the site could just be down temporarily. There are other places to get locks and chains but I wanted to show you what I got and some others that look good.

yeah, chain'em down with big chains and big locks. intertwine the chain in/out of the frame several times. make it difficult. if the thieves really want them, they'll take'em sad to say, but make it as difficult as possible. have all of the VINS, pics, descriptions, little markings you made on the quads written down/documented, tell-tale signs that they are yours that you can tell from a short distance. i've even marked a previous quad with an etcher under the handlebar grip. had to remove the grip to see it, but it was there. even put some markings on the vertical downtube from the handlebars down to the tie rods. yeah, i went overboard. but i'll be dang if i'm gonna pay all that money and some scum sucking slug comes along to try to steal it.
. i will protect my investments.
