Default gio keeps turning over

Hey all . First time posting. I just received a gio 110 from a bud. When I got it it had no battery so I bought a new battery. When I connect the battery it keeps turning over and trying to start Even with the switch turned off and the emergency break away switch on the rear disconnected. .. why is my question. I tried hitting the starter with a hammer a few times. The bike looks brand new.

Tough call without looking at the bike, have no first hand knowledge of this brand, or bike. Check with your bud, did he have this problem when he owned the bike? Somehow your getting power from the battery to the starter. Trace that path and check connections etc. etc. If you're not throwing sparks I doubt it's a crossed wire. Key switch may have gone bad in the "open" position. Hope this at least gives you a starting point.

Sounds like a solenoid or starter relay shorted out if the starter turns over with out the key even being turned on.
