The ones that plug into any DC source. As long as your ATV has the DC plug in. Only needed if the GPS battery dies.
I have the "Garmin Nuvi".

I have a Garmin Nuvi 500 that I just can't seem to kill. Have had it on around 5,000 miles of harsh New England trails including riding in wintertime. It's seen temps from 15-98 degrees and trails with rocks, over the rack water holes, roots, stumps, ice, mud, and sand. The thing that ends up getting trashed the most is the 12V cord. I always have at least one spare handy.

If you have the money the Garmin Montana 650T is quite the unit. I prefer the GPS units with topographic maps so you can get a little bit better bearing of where you are.

My Garmin is older than dirt. I hardly ever use it but it still works. If I bought a new GPS it would be another Garmin. I used to use it a lot and used the power cord especially in winter because the batteries wouldn't last very long. Mine takes 4 AAs and I don't like carrying spares.

Garmin is the way to go. battery life is good i get about 30+ hours on a pair of batteries and keep a set of spares in my trail box. Using the power cord no longer makes them water proof. Stay away from magellin their customer service/warranty is useless, and if you buy maps and then have issues with the unit and cannot use the maps they will not refund anything or even try to help.

I had a Garmin 60Csx for 9 years and it worked great. I think they're up to 64 models now. I Just upgraded to a Montana 650, and have it mounted to the speedometer cowling.
