Sounds like a clogged fuel filter, or float in carb not dropping to let fuel flow properly into bowl.

Both of my Arctic Cats will run out of gas when the tank still has a couple gallons, if I forget to switch to reserve. Just a thought, first time almost drove me nuts, opened the fill, hmm, looks half full, finally switched to reserve, bingo! Also check gas tank vent for being plugged. Mud dauber wasps like to plug mine up with mud.

If the float was not adjusted properly their will not be enough fuel in the bowl to continue running. I have also seen the fuel shut off go bad, main side of valve plugs up and will only work properly off reserv side.

If its not a fuel issue it could be something overheating as well. Mechanical or electrical
