Default sold an atv

Sold a 2001 Yamaha raptor stating that only issues were needed battery and chain. Guy called and said would buy it for $500 if it wasn't able to be started. He got it last night and then called saying engine is blown. It wasn't blown when last used it. He wants a refund. Any thoughts??

Did you start it when you were selling it to show it could be started? I'm not familiar with Raptors. Do they have a pull start? If you started it and it ran well he doesn't have a leg to stand on to me. If you didn't start it, it's his word against yours.

No pull start and he knew battery was no good and that it couldn't be started. It belonged to our son and he says the engine isn't blown. He said he'd give $500 for it since he couldn't hear it run.

Give him his $500, fix it, sell it for $1,500. Do a compression check, if it's ok, then it just needs something to make it run. Gas, compression and spark, bingo.

Well, I'm guessing he must have at least put a battery in it to at least try to get it started. Maybe even a chain.

You could either say sorry, and take the quad back, with the new battery and chain, or say there was no warranty sold with the bike.

If you take it back, resell it as possible bad motor, but new chain and battery.

Its a $500 Raptor, what did he expect? I see so many of these for sale in running order locally for $1500-$2000 that I wouldn't have even bothered if it didn't run.

yep he bought a $500 rapture and did not hear it start so that would fall on him.. But that being said you can give him a refund and buy the chain and batt off him or tell him to forget it

He's a "whiner" you'll never be free of him until you buy it back. If it was perfect, he'd be telling everyone what a schmuck you were to sell it so cheap. Next, he'll be suing you for mental anguish, loss of consortium, or his toilet backing up... No winning with a CP (Cheap Prik)

Tell him to put it all together and bring it back. Needs to be just like it was when you sold it. If not, sorry.
