I have the option of two used quads right now.

The first is a 2009 Honda Rubicon 500 with the following features: electric start, automatic, reverse, 2500lb winch, plow, big wes rear rack backrest.storage, new grim reaper tires, custom rims and hmf exhaust. This quad has ...........hours and ............miles. Sale price is $3000.




The second option is 2005 Polaris Sportsman 800 with double barrel back brush gaurd, front brush guard, 3000lb winch and stock tires and rims. This quad has 286 hours and 1880 miles. Sale price is $2900





Which would you choose. My main use will be hunting, trail riding, and snow plowing.

Hi from Colorado. A used quad is always a crap shoot unless you know how the machine was used. It sounds like you have the basic quad ATV uses in mind. Hunting, snowplowing, and trail riding.

I think the Rubicon is a independent rear suspension machine. If so, then it would be my choice mainly due to reliability. The Sportsman has more power and a better ride, but may have more mechanical issues to work on. A straight axle Honda is a rough riding beast, but a good work beast none the less.

So I would take a close look at the Honda.

The Polaris is like the hot blonde that knows her way around the bedroom, but may let you down. The Honda is like the chunky girl that can cook really good and will stick by you, no mater what.

I'd get that one, assuming it has similar mileage. The Honda has way less power than either of them, rougher ride and no front difflock. If something goes wrong with the Rubicon transmission, its very expensive to fix. On a cvt quad, its usually just replacing a $100 belt and they last for thousands of miles. The Polaris does have efi, the Brute Force 750 didn't get efi until 2008 I believe, the 07 still has the dual carb setup like my 650 has. Efi is easier starting in cold weather. Carb takes a little patience. If those dual carbs do need cleaning or rebuilt, it will cost more than on a single carb machine like the Honda. And the Brute Force gets less than stellar fuel economy though the Polaris doesn't do much better. That's about the only thing the Honda does much better, fuel economy. As far as the fun factor goes, the Brute Force wins that one. The Polaris has slightly more power(its 53hp vs 50) but the Brute Force weighs a lot less so its faster. And it has low range and nice steel racks to carry a lot of stuff and a good towing rating so it is good for work or play.

 

 

I think the brute force may be out. Over 625hrs on it.

 

There is another guy selling an 07 sportsman 700 with 2889 miles but wants $4000 for it. He says never trail ridden and only used to haul farm implements and plow.
