I bought a 2001 polaris sportman 500 h.o. and didn't realize I had to register it.. the Vin I'm missing numbers 4 through 8 and know it's the body style etc. And the last two numbers. Would these pictures help me at all? I spent 2300 on it off of craigslist and don't want to have to dump it.

The vin should be stamped on the lower left side frame. Is that where you are getting the number from?

 

Yea that first pic is the Vin number all rusted out.

 

Should show prefix 4XACH50A and then the rest of the serial number which doesn't look too good on the rest of the number as far as I can see. Some times you can wet the frame or use a little muratic acid to bring out the number on the frame if it hasn't been ground down too far.
