So I have been fixing up a 2005 Kymco MXU 250 to resell, got it from a family member. Well long story short they didn't know they had a title to it or a bill of sale. I just found out now by looking in their safe that there is indeed a title and a bill of sale from 2016. My question is, and maybe where I live will affect the answer but I live in Utah, so I was wondering how I can get it transferred into my name since it has already been signed off by the buyer. It was signed off back in 2016 though, so would there be any penalty for not transferring it into the new owners name even though they had no prior knowledge of owning the title?

 

You're best bet is to contact your states DMV and see what they say. Will save any surprises if you have gotten advice from another state that doesn't have the same policies.

 

I doubt it will be a problem. Just explain what happened at the DMV.
