Anybody got a RHINO yet?

Thanks for the info Wadd3456. I understand about the tire & size that is installed from the factory. But don't your really think they look to small for the Rhino.
I know the ground clearence and wheel well space adds to the little tire look too. I will be trying the 28's out to see what the effect is. if it takes to much power or handling
away I'll try another size or do some Mods.

Max....
I have several friends that converted from ATV's to Mules and Rangers mostly due to their ability to haul more gear and people. Once these hunting guys started converting, they found that they needed to jack up the mules and add decent tires. I think Yamaha saw this trend (converting a work machine to a hunting machine) and came out with the Rhino. Two of my friends that sell Mules and Yamaha's say the two are designed for seperate functions (Mules/Rangers for work and some hunting, Rhino for hunting/fun and some work).
It sounds like you should consider a mule or ranger for pulling/towing and hauling.

WADD is trying to explain that the tires were specifically developed for this vehicle. They were tuned in conjunction with the suspension to achieve the best handling. They are no way close to off the shelf. If you put any other tire on this vehicle, then performance will be affected. Handling will not be as crisp, although the ground clearance may be increased. You should decide before you purchase bigger tires which is important to you.
Good luck!

I should have made the same disclaimer when talking about these new wheels and tires. Granted these are only 26's (I would have even went with similiar stock 25" MudLites if ITP could've put decent tread on that size....with stock ground clearance seeming sufficient for my use) yet they will definitely rob you of some performance. I also certainly don't expect a simple 12 X 7 rolled aluminum atv wheel to hold up in any serious mud/rock situations with this much weight involved. This combination was purchased for show only and the stockers will definitely go back on whenever we hit the trails. More tread and size options with the same engineering would be "nice" from Yamaha.......but I bet they are having enough trouble right now with filling orders and getting us the accessories we need (we can't even get proper instrumentation for another 3 months!).
Again, hats off to the guys and gals at Yamaha; it's a cold, nasty, rainy night here in Michigan.......and what do you think this guy is going to do when he gets home(?)............

WOW! After reading all the forum messages from the past few weeks I am more convinced than ever I did the right thing by putting down a deposit on the Rhino. I'm still waitin for the call from my dealer. I sold my Grizzly 3 weeks ago and am currently going through ATV withdrawal. I also think that a sideXside club would be a good idea. I truly have have off road envy of you guys that have yours. Hopefully this will be the week!

You really get a lot of confidence that even side-weighted by yourself, on the bad side of a sloped turn; you never feel like you better slow down or risk getting yourself in trouble. Same thing when powersliding into turns full blast (top speed turns out to be about the most you would normally take most corners on a quad at anyways)....lots of confidence....lots of control.
I was not impressed with how these MudLites felt on my Sportsman; yet the Rhino takes all feeling of this being a large lug mud tire away in the first 2 or 3 mph. I really need to swap back and forth with the stock tire/wheel combo a few more times to know what I like about both better.
This is probably the fourth or fifth time I rode it tonight and would encourage anybody who is contemplating making an atv purchase to at least drive this thing first. As Nathan mentioned about "still grinning"......it really is that much fun and I have never felt more relaxed after a ride.
And you're right, Nathan......give us even that "half" windshield; at the very least!
By the way, boneman; not sure where Davison is........but you are welcome over here in Southwest Michigan anytime before or after you take delivery. We may need you to also help work with us on fixing our state trail system, if you're interested.

Thank's Guy's, on all the great feedback. It really sounds like Yamaha Pegged it with the Rhino, but like scubasteve wrote. We could really use some action pictures. I have an 03' Grizzly with 27", 589's. Hows this machine on quad wigth trails, and deep mud? has anyone had to wench out yet? Any sputtering in deep water, or reverse? I'm from W. Massachusetts, it shouldn't be long before the snow hit, I wander how the Rhino would do in snow, or with a set of Mattracks?
thank"s again, Ruffy

RhinoOffRoad......You just hit a great point that I never thought about. Getting your feet wet in deep water - since you must use your feet to drive, they will get wet. Yamaha, if you are listening/reading, I want a commission on this idea: Yamaha accessory - color coordinated hip boots with a Yamaha Rhino Logo.
RhinoOffRoad, BlackBalled or anyone else lucky enough to already have one of these rigs......what is the deal with a winch? When I put my deposit down, I ordered a 3000lb Warn Winch but the dealer is now telling me they do not have mounting brackets for the 3000lb so I have to wait. They THINK the 2500lb brackets will work but are not sure the 2500lb will be big enough. I have always heard that you should double the weight of the machine in order to calculate ideal winch size. If that is the case, then a 2500lb should be plenty (assuming a full tank of gas, 400lb of gear and me staying dry with a remote). Any ideas/comments???
P.S. They are saying this week is it - still can't wait.

I went with the 3000# Ramsey, the multi-mount package and (hopefully) enough wire to operate off the front or rear. The only fabricating which looks needed at this time; are an adaptor down to the smaller receiver on the kit (from the 2" found on the Rhino) or possibly an 1 1/4" receiver mounted a little higher on the frame to keep things more out of the water (for winching only). I will also simply weld a receiver off the front end.
IMO, the option of moving your winch is a must with something you will normally not be allowed to skirt mud holes with (turning radius v.s. quad). There are times you just want to get the heck out of what you just got in to; as opposed to dragging yourself further into trouble you'll have to face "again" on a looped trail. I also want the most options availiable to me when it comes to what is actually around to hook up "to".
I have no idea if any of this is actually going to 'work'........but I've already spent all this money thinking it better!
