Gizz? Rhino?
#1
I'm thinking of a buying a new quad, and I really like the looks of the Grizz. Any owners have som input? Also looking at the Rhino. I don't ride that hard anymore, plus if I want to ride in deep mud, water whatever I have my old Honda 300 to try to tear up.

I know I'm going to sound at the least bias and at the worst arrogant when I say this.........but I've got the old 300 Fourtrax 4WD also (what a dependable workhorse/trail rider) and never knew it could possibly be the only quad I'd ever need again.
I have really gotten to the point that after owning this serial# 600 some odd Rhino for 6 months......the only machine I will pretty much ever "lust after" again, will be some other equally adept version of the funnest machine I have ever "drove" (which I now realize is much better than "ridden" ever thought of being....and my upper body thanks me for it!).
You really need to make an effort to drive this thing 'somewhere' before you make your purchase........it's that much of a groundbreaking way to enjoy the outdoors in comfort unmatched and with the power needed to tackle whatever you throw at it.
Good luck with your search.

I've got to agree completely. The Rhino is alone in it's class. All the other side-by-sides are targeted to be utility vehicles. The Rhino is truly sport. I've got a Raptor too, and I'm not sure which one is the greater thrill. I've put a Grizzly CDI, pipe, and jets in my Rhino. It'll do close to 50MPH, and sucks up the rough stuff just like a well suspended quad. Tons of room for storage (i.e. beer filled ice chest), and an 8 gallon gas tank for long journeys. I live in San Diego, so dunes are very close. I took the Rhino out (in stock form) just to see what it'd do, didn't expect much. But even stock, it does the dunes with no problem. I ended up driving the Rhino at least twice as much as riding my Raptor, it was that much fun. Plus you can bring a wife, girlfriend, or both if you want.
In short, you gotta try the Rhino. It'll blow your socks off!

Just curious black Rhino, Can it fit in the back of a truck, and how is it in the tight woods.Always liked the idea of the Ranger but it seemed too big when I sat in it. 50mph?.I read it did 30 max.How mutch did the mods cost.

Haven't tried putting it in a pickup bed, but the specs show overall width at 54.5". I would guess the tire width to be 2+ inches less than that. Minimum turning radius is 153" if that helps with your question about tight woods. I haven't personally had any problem with tight turns, the Rhino manuvers better in tight stuff than my quad.
Stock the Rhino is limited to 30-35 MPH. It has a rev limiter, and Sheave (Clutch) mods that keep it down. Replacing the CDI unit gets rid of the rev limiter. I have a Grizzly CDI on mine, a little over $300 from Yamaha. Problem is the Rhino uses different voltages for guages and lights, so a few things go wrong/don't work with the Griz CDI, and several folks are recommending NOT using the Griz CDI as it may be damaging other components. I'm also on the early test list for a new aftermarket CDI that (according to the company) adds another 1000 RPM over the Griz CDI, and is completely compatible with the Rhino voltages, etc. Can't wait to get my hands on it. With the Griz CDI, my speed is about mid-40's. With this new CDI I expect 50+.
You can also do a Sheave replacement with the Grizzly components. There's a tech article on the parts and process. That also adds some top end speed to the Rhino, although I haven't done that one yet so can't say how much.
I've also talked to a company that will be fabricating some trick suspension goodies for the Rhino. Things get more interesting all the time...

Interesting. Why the hell did they put a 660 in it if they were gonna let it crawl like a 200? If they can get that thing up to 50 reliably without causing elec. problems, sounds good. The Polaris ranger does 40-45 stock. I dont know why they dont put the 700efi in that rig.Good luck with the mods. I'm sure everyone else will do it if it works well.
