A change of subject ...
I'm starting to research SE Texas for riding/camping/cabins. I've found several, but all the pictures seem to be loaded with mudding and quads. This really got me thinking. These karts are quite different. When considering low end torque, suspension, ground clearance ... general menuverability, what type of landscape should I be looking for? I bet every off road site I saw, had pictures of 4-wheelers in the slop and 1/2 the photos were of the "stuck in mud" theme. My girls are 10 and 11, and I don't want to be pulling the thing out of mud and certainly would prefer not to be uprighting the kart. I realize it's not a toy and I have a ton of dirt bike experience, but this is really new to me and I'm trying to figure out just exactly what I'm looking for in riding areas to maximize our fun. I saw a place in Arkansas where you can rent cabins in an ATV park. Wow, it was a cool idea.

So, I'd like some input as to what type of terrain is best with these??? And, would love any SE Texas suggestions for riding and camping. Also, give me some hinters on spare parts and such. In other words, if you are 5 miles from "somewhere," and you have a flat tire. Do I need to buy a spare? How often do you get flats with these karts? Do I need to keep a spare chain? Typically, during an outing, what should I be prepared for? Some great links would be nice??

By the way, my Blade ships next week!!!!

Thanks guys!
Joe

Best terrain: hard pack dirt, woods, low elevations

Spare parts: volt/ohm meter, wiring schematic, and electrical connectors

Flats: havn't had any yet, but tires are easily blown off the bead if the pressure is too low

Chain: still using the originals on mine

Outing preparation: prepare to have stupid amounts of fun. My buggy's see far more use than my ATV's

That said, moderate mud, shallow water, and moderately sandy conditions are still fine. Trails are best but sand pits are still fun.

Stu's the man... Awesome buggys are still saying 6 to 8 weeks out and the website isn't even finished yet after all this time.

Okay, I figured out my backfire problem I was having finally. Last ditch before messing with newer jet sizes I decided to remove the exhaust and inspect it. I found out that the pipe wasn't sealing properly against the exhaust port. Used a new gasket and re-installed and the sound is much better, the power is tons better, and I no longer have backfire issues!!

Honestly , I'm pretty happy with the power the way it is now. Hills are much better, and off the line is acceptable now. I definately want to try the new style CDI and see where it is then. Might still try a yerf head after that , or explore the XTV head... but mainly to be able to change gearing for some speed.

Looks like the one that they sell at Pep Boys. If it is the same one, it's pretty cheap looking. Especially for the price.

Here is something that is scary. Awesome Buggys _still_ has yet to get the site running, but their buggys selling on ebay apparantly have largely changed in appearance. I don't personally like the look of these now. The style in the first auctions (at least the pictures that were shown) looked like a very nice update on a KPX style cart. Now it is something else. Mirrors are in a different place, the console that was on the old pictures is not there... the placement of the headlights is higher and now only two lights instead of 4. I hope those people that bid on the first 3 auctions actually get what they bid on. I wouldn't be a happy camper, myself.

Looks like I'll be ordering another Yerf head and valves for my blue KPX Xterro soon.
RAPTORAZ, any update on this.
I would like to know specifically if I can get away with just ordering the head and valves, I am not sure if your other xterro had the whole yerf dog jug and piston or not. Do they sell the gaskets in a kit or do I just need to order one head gasket, I think the valve cover is an O-ring? Any suggestions about milling the head a little to boost compression? Also, you mentioned after porting the stock head that it hit the rev limiter, would it be a benefit to order the cdi mentioned before to raise the limit? I have never hit the rev limiter on my twister, that I am aware (even down hill).

thanks,
Kell

forgot: Also, I think you mentioned you were running aftermarket wheels that made offset wider than stock, any problems bending the axle etc. so far? Seems like the people running the stock balloon type tires could benefit from flipping the rims to widen the rear end (I have rolled mine, even with my squared off tires) but could stress the axle more. I can't get away with this because it just barely fits backed up into my truck as it is.

I don't have any updates as of yet. Been having overheating issues with my 727 Raptor that has been eating up my time lately. My black Xterro does indeed have the entire Yerf upper end. Piston, jug, head, cam, valves, etc... I swapped everything, because I had all the parts. I'm 99% sure that all the would be needed for the swap is the head and valves. The gaskets do not come in a kit. They are all individual. I've used gaskets from both Yerf and Dazon, and havn't noticed any difference between them. All you'll really need is a head gasket. I've reused all the others without any problems so far. As far as milling goes, since the piston's do NOT go to zero deck, you can remove a lot of material without worry. I removed .050" off the head, and used a .010" thinner base gasket on my blue Xterro. The chain tensioner has no problem taking up the extra slack. And the piston to valve clearance isn't even an issue. I was wrong about the rev limiter. It was a loose connection that caused a high RPM miss-fire.

I'm actually running the stock wheels reversed. Which widens the kart by 2 inches in the rear. I have noticed a wobble(when operating the kart off the ground) in the rear axle. Since it can't be felt while driving, I havn't looked into it.
