Well, I think the problem was (of course) the vacuum. The reason I had trouble finding where it went was because it went inside another hose that was already connected to the engine.
I see gas flowing now. It started, but quickly died. I cranked it a few more times and it started almost a couple, then the battery died. After another close look, I found another vacuum hose not connected. I hooked it up and had enough battery to start one more time. It ran for about 5 seconds, but quit the second I gave it any gas. Maybe it needs some tweaking, but I certainly don't know what. I really don't know what to try. Also, what do I need to know when charging one of these little batteries. I have a typical Craftsmen charger.
I also noticed another rubber line/hose near the back of the motor coming from the top of what seems to be the drives housing. I have no idea what it's for, but it's not connected to anything. If it's another vacuum, I see no place for it to go.
Sure would like to ride this thing.

I juiced the battery. The motor started immediately, idled very slowly for about 7-8 seconds, then stalled. It did the same thing, then ran less and less. In other words, each time it started, it ran a couple seconds less before starting. I'm not doing anything but turning the key. No gas or nothing. The one time I tried the gas, it reved some and quit anyway.
I'm sure I shouldn't mess with the carb adjustments, but my unprofessional opinion is that the idle seems to low. I think it may be fine if it can ever stay started and get warmed up. But if each cold start is this way, it's going to need some type of adjustment.
My wife's bro will be in town tomorrow. He is a jet engine mechanic and former motorcycle mechanic. He still rebuilds wrecked bikes as a hobby. He'll take a look I'm sure. For now, any more ideas??

Crank up the idle. You can always turn it down after it warms up. Hard starting shouldn't be an issue. Both of mine start right up.

You mentioned the electric choke. It's about 35 degrees at my house. When I start it cold, if the choke is working, wouldn't it be at an increased idle? It turns over immediately at a steady, unchoke like, typical low idle, and slows over a 4-8 second period till it finally stalls. I adjusted the idle, but it seems to have no affect. I'm still wondering about maybe another vacuum hose issue. By the way, did the hose at the top of the back engine casing ring a bell? It's a typical black hose, similar to the fuel line.
My gals are driving me crazy. I don't blame them at all. I guess I'll try again Sunday.

The hose at the top and rear of the engine case is the differential gear case vent. You can either leave it open. Or put a very small filter on it. Mine are open since they vent outward pressure. Since it's cold outside, try adjusting the idle mixture screw out. It's on the left hand side of the carb, just forward and above the fuel bowl. I'd try 1/2 of a turn counterclockwise.

Got my girl a KPX for Christmas to replace her yerf dog POS. Finally finished putting it to gether today and took it out riding. What an incredible differance between the kpx and the yerf dog. The turning radius is was halved going to the kpx. The ride is way smoother. Better ground clearance. And the BIG differance Reverse. So far I am really impressed with this new cart.

I'm an idiot. Stu went over the engine/fuel line setup this morning. I had a couple vacuum hoses switiched. I had tried them the correct way, but I guess I didn't give it a chance before putting back the wrong way. I had a feeling I was mucking something up.
Anyway, I'm running finally and everything seems great. Stu contacted me the second he arrived at the office this morning and was prepared to overnight me a carb ... what every it took.
Updates coming.
