Default looking into a project twister

I am seriously considering a twister-engine swap project.I am looking at engine options, and wondered if some of you may have some input.I'm wondering about the amount of power these chassis can handle before I need to beef it up.I am thinking of a couple different engines,I would love a Banshee motor-it would run and sound way cool but I would have to engineer a reverse for it.I have also considered some of the late-model,4 stroke sport-bike engines, but am a little scared of $$$ and availability.A polaris 500ho would be cool, but heavy and pricey.I have been told that I can rig up a starter for somewhat of an "external reverse",and I am thinkin this through,as I really like the Banshee motor idea.Yall got any additional info???Also,I know that the drive is on the wrong side for most quad engines,I will most likely change the axle setup to accomadate the motor I choose.Well???????

hey, man it sucks seems like nobody has the time to reply to anything in these forums or dont care. Well i realy dont know much about the kart. I just got one this sunday and am asking myself the same questions i really am a speed freak and i want this to go faster. How is it going with the project? Have u found any cofigurations for this thing any engine options? My neigbor says that a 500 2-stroke engine will fit niceley on it he knows alot about this stuff(since im only 17 and im fairly new to the atv/motorcycle stuff he teaches me) So any updates would be very helpfull.

Thnx and good luck with the project.

I think that just about every power up grade and mod to the drive train was discussed in the long post. What we were all waiting for was a retro fit rearend up grade kit that would bolt up with a more powerfull motor. That isn't going to happen from the manufacturers. They want you to buy a new model with a 250cc engine.

You are on your own to fabricate and retrofit a new rear drive train for an engine swap. Its feasable but it would have to be extened in the rear. The main issue is you'll lose your reverse when you go to drirrect drive. The easiest fab, would be to scrap the rear and build up stronger seams anyway. Your average smoe doesn't have the skill nor the machince shop to articulate conception. Good luck an I hope you suceed we would all love to see how ya did it.

Maybe you could get Yamaha Rhino engine and trans and modify from there. Hope you got deep pockets.

I talked to twister people the other day.It seems they are going to have a 400cc model out in the spring so I am going to wait and see what that is like.

I haven't priced the new ones. but I can tell you that if its 4,500.00 I wouldn't get it. If you are going to be able to spend time on it, than get a Desert Kart. Or look for a used Desert Kart. If its for the dunes than buy an old sand rail and have a shop fix it up. They have some smaller sand rails. You can even set it up legal for the street. The lower west is full of those early sand rails and have surived the owners use. I've seen them sell for around 1500 needing a little work. Any VW shop can work on them and there are unlimited parts.

Once they built the 250cc karts they had to make them longer and wider anyway. By increaseing the speed, they have to increase the suspention which in the case of the 250cc they didn't do hardly enough to it. Once they get up to the 400cc class its going to be bigger again and still under built. If you must have speed than get a desertkart or a cheap sandrail. I still think the fun is in the small size and you have to ride them to their capability.

I haven't done it to mine yet. But drill out the exhaust baffle, remove the airbox and use a unifilter, drill out the jet, put the spacer in the CV clutch and even drill out the clutch weights. All those tweeks cost little mostly your effort. Then only ride single and no luggage except a tow strap. Lightening it up wont do much, But you could cut the luggage rack off and cut the side plates off remove the spare seat and shave the floor board and maybe a bar or two in the right place and dont forget about the five pound trailer ball. If you climb hills regear and put a new sprocket in there.
Then if you are still unsettled poor gas o lean all over it and torch it. Or better yet put in a big bottle of nitrous oxide piped to the unifilter and let her rip mad max style. You could even tie your neibors kid to the front.

Hahahahahahaha! Take a joke?

Its in the perspective, change the conditions.

Its much much more fun in the forest, thrilling as hell. As a matter of fact you cant even put it up to top speed in a forest. Forget about riding in the sand. Once you try and bring the capabilities up to other off road toys you'll lose. But put it in the forest were it is intended to perform and you'll exceed quite well. It even helps keep the branches from whiping you but your friends on quads will get whipped preety good. The smaller carts are even better with a swing axle, punch the gas and whip the rear around. Sand rails and trucks cant get back in to naked forests like the carts can and you'll do well with the quads. Just dont go alone or get lost or let the sun set on you.

Have a good day and bring it to the forest. Then tell us how ya did.
