My buggy came today!
#1
Got a call from the R&L trucking guy saying that he was in my area around 1.30 today, so I met up with him. He dropped off the big metal crate, and an hour later, it was ready to ride! 'Some assembly required': front fenders, front tired, roll bar, cooler rack, seats. That's IT. Seriously, I think it took us (bro-in-law) longer to get the dang thing out of the crate than it did to assemble everything, and it woulda gone even faster is I had my air ratchet handy. Looks-wise, the SunL 250cc buggy is nearly identical to my F-I-L's Twister 150, except for a few things:
He likes the location of my front blinkers (in board the main frame, as opposed to hanging out getting snagged by everything)
My battery box is in a location where it MIGHT get snagged my a rock, but I think it'll be ok
The rear swingarm on my 250 is just that; a swingarm, held up by 2 coilover shocks, as opposed to the cantilever type system on his twister, so mine will respond better to beefier, longer travel shocks than his Twister did.
My rear swingarm has a bumpstop
My seats are better, engine has more power (duh, 100cc difference), and get this: a leather-wrapped steering wheel (I think it's leather), and air vs. water cooled. And, of course, during assembly, I screwed up and didn't tighten up the front fender bolts, so on the test drive, it fell off and I ran over it, breaking it; already have another one on order. Took a while for it to warm up, but then again, it was 45 degrees and the first time the engine was running, and these are pretty cold natured anyhow. I'll surely be putting the rear shocks on front, and getting some beefier shocks for the back, and be building a rear bumper bar for it, as it does lack some protection in backing into stuff. Other than that, I LOVE it and will put some pics up whenever I can.
All in all, $1849 purchase, $399 shipping, $30 shipping insurance comes to $2268. 9 days from auction end to having a buggy. Saw one for sale at a dealer down the road from me for $3600, so I feel pretty good right about now.
