Default Winter problem solving

Boring winter is here, been thinking about ways to make ridding trips better, come ride season. One idea I came up with is....I find my factory D rings on my trailer are outside of my wheel width of my machine making it difficult to work the rachet straps. If I were to add a piece of chain with hooks on both ends to the floor mounted D rings, that could allow me to attach the rachet straps to the chain itself, giving me the same hooking point as a centered D ring. Would be much easier to attach and work the rachet straps from the center of the UTV rather than the tight space between tire and wall of the trailer. Has anyone tried this or see a fault with this idea? Again just some winter thoughts, thanks in advance for your input. .

Been thinking about adding more as well, but getting them bolted to a frame member is the priblem....well not a problem but lots of extra work!
Just thinking the chain would be simple and easy if it will work.
