Default 550 Mule exhaust upgrades???

Guys,
I'm new to the Mule (just took delivery of my new 550 yesterday, and just drove it for the
first time today---after installing a set of hand controls (I'm a wheelchair user) and after some
initial bombing around I'm sure performance upgrades (if available) are in the cards for the near
future. I'm specifically thinking of a muffler replacement.....if anyone can steer me in the right direction
or has any advice on the Mule I'd sure appreciate it.

thanks,
mark thomson

Hi Mark, Do you have the model and or part #'s for the exhaust and K&N. Also have a new 550 Mule and lookin for a little extra power. Also was the muffler run straight out the back and was there much hassle putting it in.

Chewy,
I'll get the part numbers.....I just looked in Dennis Kirk and found a 1 1/8" Supertrapp Universal muffler, but I realized after I got the muffler that I also needed the core kit and mounting kit as well, the total price was about $100. The K&N requires modification and the destruction of the original filter so I haven't finished that install yet. The best money I spent was on a pair of Worksperformance shocks for the front (originally for a Polaris snowmobile). I would be glad to take some digital pics and email them to you of the Supertrapp install if you like. I didn't run mine straight out the back but instead cut the incoming pipe off of the original muffler and then used the Supertrapp mounting strap to attach to the first original muffler mount point then bent a piece of aluminum strap (1/8 x 1/2 x 4") to mount to the other mounting point, it's very well supported and out of harm's way.

Do you 'off road' yours or use it as a utility vehicle? I've found mine is a blast in the woods and climbing hills.
I've got a shop manual coming to investigate removing the governor, I'll keep you posted on that.

Chewy,

Here is a link to the web page with the Supertrapp info.

Please let me know of any mods you have found beneficial.

Modifying a Mule to be a decent trail machine is probably a little whacked, but when it's all
you can ride it makes sense.
