What do you think of a Ruger Super Red Hawk 45 double action Casull revolver. My brother wants to sell his. I think the barrel is 7" inches..+- ... lots of extras, including two holsters, 4 or 5 boxes shells, quick snap loaders, & some other misc..wants $525.00 new in 2001...thks

I actually told him I'd take it...

I take it you mean 454 Casull. Real powerhouse, and you can practice with 45 Long Colt ammo that would be a little cheaper and less recoil. Great price, wish I could find one for that.

dont fear the ruger they are great and any problems only occur due to operator shaking when they fire or using plastic mags on the .22s. the revolvers always work and are accurate after a few trips to the range

I have the Rugar New Model Super Black Hawk .44 in single action in the 5.50 barrel and a good pair of "Pacmyer" grips replacing the factory wood grips. If your looking for a strictly hunting gun I say single action all the way, less moving parts easier to strip down for field cleaning if you take a mud bath with it on your hip and mine took me through Alaska and everything it could throw at me and never failed me once.

Hunting ammunition for my .44 was the 185gr "Cor Bon" round it hits harder than the 240gr jacketed soft tip with half the recoil. BTW this round is a standard handgun Bear load for alaska side arms (the only round that you can bet your life on to penetrate a bear skull), only downfall is these rounds are sold in packs of 10-20 and you don't take them to range as they are very expensive rounds to buy at about 5.00 a round.
