No Spark 200x

No Spark 200x
I just got a 200x it ran at the shop, when I got it home it would not start. I tested to see if I was getting spark. There was none. I have replaced the plug, put new gas in it and rebuilt the carb. I pulled the cover off the coil and there was oil in the cover. Is that ok? I thought that it might not be so I cleaned it out. It still wont start. Help anyone.

If you mean the stator coils and your 200x is an 83 - 85 model, probably not, might have a leaky crankshaft seal. You can always tell because if it's meant to be dry under the cover, Honda will always put a little notch in the bottem of the cover somewhere to vent it, drain water, let you know it's leaking. Even if it does leak oil into the stator windings and flywheel, it wouldn't cause the machine to lose spark. You need to troubleshoot it with a meter and manual/and or specs. Most common cause of no spark on that model besides a fouled spark plug, probably the stator itself, but there are many possibilities.

No Spark 200x
I just fixed a similar problem on my 83 200x. It turned out to be the pulse generator, which is inside the cover on the top of the left side of the engine that says "CDI". It should have magnetism, so just take off the cover and remove the two screws that hold the brass colored ring to the engine. The black plastic box at the top of the ring has a magnet in it. See if it will stick to something steel. If you have a multitester and a manual you also can test the resistance through the leads on the pulse generator. Your problem could also be the coil. You can take that to a dealer and they will test it under load for a nominal fee. The CDI can also be tested with a multi tester. You just need a manual to see what the readings should be between each position. The CDI is a sealed unit and I don't think it can be rebuilt. At this point, all you have spent money on is a manual, which you will probably going to need anyway if you plan to keep this 200x and fix it yourself, and a multitester. Remember, every new project deserves a new tool.
