Default Drain Plug fell out!!!

I was riddin today and I felt something on my foot so I looked down to see the oil shooting out of the drain hole cuz the bolt fell out. Good thing I found it. I must not have tightened it enough last night when I changed the oil. Has anyone ever had this happen before?

Did you find the bolt and washer? If nothing was hurt then I guess it's better to have it too loose rather than too tight and stripped. How did you get it home?

Default Drain Plug fell out!!!

When I bought my Rancher, the dealer filled it with oil, but didn't put the cap on. I didn't notice it until I hit 3rd gear and the hot oil went spraying out all over my leg.

reconranger, The dealer was lucky you didn't sue them for burns to the leg. Like the people that sue because their coffee was too hot when they spilled it on themselves. Also the people that sue fast food places because the food made them fat.

My neihbor has an 86' 250r 3-wheeler and got his entire motor rebuilt. Took it out and the shop forgot to tighten the drain plug, emptied all the oil and blew his motor. Shop replaced the parts for free =X

I did this only once, back in about 86, on a trx125. It was a regular and good customer at the place I worked at, and it scored his piston. I had to rebuild it for him but the humble pie I ate was the worst part. Ever since then, I have been paranoid about doing the same so I double check every drain plug (and any other crucial parts). It must work cause it hasn't happened since.

I replace the drain-plug gasket eveytime I change the oil. When you tighten the drain plug with a new gasket, being soft aluminum, as you tighten the plug you can feal the gasket "squish" and then the plug tighten up. Torqued perfectly and will never leak or come out.

Glad it didn't cost you an engine.

Darn good point specta, I do too. It protects the threads in the cases against overtorquing too.
