400EX rear brakes

Default 400EX rear brakes

Hey everyone,
I just installed rear brake pads on my 400ex with OE pads. My problem is they are wearing out a lot quicker than the first ones. My question is do they wear out because of the e-brake or is there something I am over- looking. I never use my e-brakes and I clean them after every ride. The rotor does not look warped. I use my front brakes most of the time. I am thinking of installing a block off kit. Where can I get one and do I need to remove the cable or do anything with the clutch lever. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Well....have you changed your riding area...more water or mud would really wear out the pads quick....The e-brake can mess things up too..I would rip that junk off quick...You can get a "kit" off of eaby...it's a new lever without that e-brake crap on it...and it has a blockoff plate...you just take the cable and throw it in the trash...or you can buy just the blockoff plate for about $12...moose, duncan, lonestar, amoung others all sell them...

Not to be a prik but is it possible you might have your foot slightly resting on the pedal when your riding ?

Does your disc feel rough this wears it down too but can be solved with some nice sand paper.. And did u bleed it correctly? cause they could be tight and rubbing constantly..

My friends had the same problem and it turned out to be the e-brake.

you should check out what compound the pads you got are. I recently bought new pads that are organic compound, if this is what you have they wear out quicker, but stop better. Next time you buy pads ask about compound choices and characteristics, and choose what suits your type of riding.

Check your rear axle bearings too. Once you get play, it wears the brakes down more too. You can check to make sure your rotor isn't warped by holding a screwdriver close to the rotor and spinning the wheel. If it hits on one side but not the other, it is warped. You have to steady the screwdriver against the swingarm.
