I think if it is claimed to have a top speed at 66mph it could go 74mph with the mods that my friend has on it...I don't think he was full of crap...we were on a flat dry lake...soggy dry lake bed to be exact.

I think it can go that fast on flats....of course maybe he was full of horse dung...All I know is that my machine can keep up with any other one out there no problem! Been there and done that.

I dont believe a 400 ex could go 85 unless it was geared to the moon! Then it wouldn't have the power to pull it so it's just my opinion. I like to be honest and my DS goes about 85, but people tell me it goes faster but like I said I like to be honest. It also gets there real quick so that's all that is important to me....[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img] I do believe a 400ex could go 85 with motor work done to it though, possibly.

 

Well...I agree with ya...I guess I'll never know unless I get one of those trailtech meters. All I know is that it keeps up just fine and kicks all other 400ex's butts as far as power now that I've done that stuff to it. It rocks and was well worth the free investment.

I would love to ride a DS....I would probably give me a rush to the head.

I'm not nocking your quad I ride a 400ex too but 80 - 85 is on the crazy side. I have White Bros E-Series slip, Uni filter, Outerwear, 150 main, 40 pilot and the needle is adjusted 1 notch richer and with a GPS I got 69.1 mph compared to my buddy Doug's stocker doing 67.0. You would have to gear it to the moon and put in a higher compression piston different cam, full pipe, K&N filter and rejet and even then I would be impressed with a top speed near 80mph.

I know everyone would be bent but Honda could make the 400ex more competitive with other stock wheelers in it's class for very little effort on their part. People still want a new quad but Honda has never been particularly worried about what we want. They could redesign the plastic or even just parts of it like the headlight set up. Give it a bigger stock oil tank and some air shrouds and do the above mentioned piston, carb, cam, exhaust and air filter changes and leave the rest of the qaud the same. If they wanted to get really nuts they could improve the suspension a little bit and make it a little wider by putting a slightly wider rim offset so they wouldn't have to change the axle, a-arms or tie rods. If the quad gets 24hp to the wheels now and the Z400 gets 27hp to the ground all they would have to do is get 29 or 30hp to the ground. Stock for stock is all they are concerned with anyways since Honda couldn't give a damn about racing.

The rumours for a new Yamaha 450cc qaud on June 5th sound very plausible and maybe that will give Honda a kick in the @$$ to get something done.
