help with colors of spark plugs??
#1
I know how to check your main jet by running it wide open 4 a few seconds and pulling the clutch and killing the engine, the different colors are tan white or black, right? what do these colors mean, what should it be?

White is bad..engine is lean and not getting enough fuel
Tan/brown is good, engine is happyly getting the right mix
Black is bad.. to much fuel- running rich
Rember to do the plug chop at 1/4 throttle to check the needle too

the electrode in the middle should be tanish colored. white means its to lean need to go to a
bigger jet. black means the jets to big (rich).
tanish or light choclate color means its perfect
go to HONDAEX.COM, and look under tec tips it
shows what the plug is to look like.

krabill,
All the above info is correct but you said "run for a few seconds".That will tell you nothing..using a clean or new plug ride the machine for 1/2 mile or so at 3/4 to full throttle to check for proper main jet. Take your plug wrench with you so you can read the plug where you stop.
