The replacement for displacement is ENGINEERING EFFICIENCY!! When you can milk 50+ horsepower out of a 450, that is efficiency. No longer do you need the bulk of a big bore, to do the job. You can DO MORE WITH LESS!!

That said, by their very nature, a high strung smaller engine isn't going to have the durability of a big bore. For the desert, I would pick an XR650 based quad in a minute, over a high strung 450. The XR has proven itself over and over again in desert racing. But for trail riding or MX, I prefer the reved out nature of a modern, high strung 400-450 class engine. With the advantage, that you can keep the bike smaller and lighter.

a "high-strung" motor can be just as reliable if you build the motor properly. Put a durable piston in it with an oversized rod, and you should have no real problems keeping the motor together. You guys are so proud of your 50 horses out of a 450 4-stroke. Try 100+ horses out of a 440 2-stroke. I totally agree though. The replacement to displacement is KNOWLEDGE!

I'm gonna go race my sister's Suzuki 160 against a DS 650 and then criticize the DS because it ONLY WON BY 100 YARDS. lol Oh well, I guess that's the way it works these days.

I'll be damn if i'm gonna have someone put me down for buying what I wanted, I earn every bit of the money that I paid for it, by god I deserve to buy whatever the hell I want, and it doesnt matter what the hell you have to say about it.
this thing has been the best damn quad I have ever owned, but just because you now feel bad because you bought a 400ex and it's not as good as the z400, you gotta put other people down for it.
Hey, you wanted a 400ex, by god you should have one, but listen to me $hit ***, dont tell me what the hell i need to buy, keep your damn disrespectful comments to yourself, or i'll shove them up your *** along with the ex.
First of all, i didn't tell you wtf to buy. second off, i have no respect for z400 owners. if your stupid enough to go out a buy a peice of $hit like that, thats your own damn fault. I'm proud of my bike and i will brag about it. Third off, i was talking bout the suzuki owners who rag on the 400ex. and to take this post the way you did, then you were talking $hit. You will see me at your local tracks tearin' it up. and if you think you got the ***** to race your pos, then bring it. i will dominate you on the track, on the trail, and anywhere else i very well damn please to. Now i'm getting big headed, but i'm confident. punks like you don't scare me.

It's one thing to rag on other people's quads when yours is BETTER than theirs, but when yours isn't as fast and you go talking about someone else's quad because it only beat you by a small amount, there's something kinda wrong. I guess that would mean that my Warrior is better than a 400EX because it would only lose by a little. The point i that they are all trying to make about the raptor is that everyone talks about how much better they are but the engine is 260cc bigger than the 400ex. The Warrior and the ex are comparable because there is only a 50cc difference. Point being that with 260cc extra they should leave us so far behind that we would not be eating dust because it would already have settled. The whole point of this thread was talking about people on z400s bashing the ex when there is not a real big difference except for reverse and liquid cooled.
