Bigger tires and jumping.....
#1
I want to put some mud tires....maybe bigger...on my 450S. I ride a lot of trails and logging roads and stuff. I don't jump much but do sometimes. How much does the bigger/mud tire affect you when doing any jumping and playing(ex.slidding through a turn) ?? Good / Bad ?

Stump, you should'nt have bought the 450s if your going to be jumping.I have a Sportsman 500cc and these big tanks are not made for jumping. On the brighter side,if you were to go with some good mud tires [vampires or mudrunners] the added benefits would be incrediable in mud/snow conditions.A larger tire thru turns would only help you to grab the terrain more, causing less wheel slippage. It's your choice, jump if you want, but I'd personally switch to a lighter quad,Good Day====BILL

As far as the jumping thing.... well it'll only add more weight if you go bigger tires... but as far as tires go I went with 26" Maxxis Mudbugs they fit without any issues, and the way the lugs are you can acually whip the tail end around pretty good (man they just through clumps of grass
) I believe that the "BUGS" are the lightest 6ply mud tire that you can buy. I have no regrets what so-ever about getting them (worth every penny !) I considered the GY muddrunners befor I got these, but like the "side" lugs on these for the ruts and the weight thing. It's all up to you and what your overall goal is.

Actually , bigger tires do efect your handleing and jumpimg.1)Larger tires tend to have more sidewall flex and lean into turns which is not good.this way it is much easier too pop a tire off the wheel (not good)Also bigger tires tend to bounce alot more than smaller tires would. But if you plan on not jumping too big you should probably not worry.

Thanks for the info. I wouldn't consider the jumping I do a lot, but I do like to hit the bumps and get a litle something. I like playing in the mud better !!! :-)
