I am new to the forum but have been reading it for a couple days,I am going to buy a new Quad, I have a 2002 Blaster with tons of mods built with Trenga racing and it is fun, but i want a good solid 4 stroke Now i know i am in a honda room but lets play nice, You guys that are lucky enough to own 1 of each could be real helpful, Between the 400ex z400 Is the power difference that big or is it just top end speed,I know about the no reverse but not a big deal, How about the oil cooling I heard you can run different plug and bigger cooler to cool better, I do believe handling goes to honda, I do a lot of trail riding, more fast at times than not ,I do ride on mx track but don't race unless for fun,and i do some casual riding needing more low end power than top end riding with the family, I am really torn between these 2 quads unfortunatley i have not rode either,I have rode a raptor didnot like to tippy for my trails and i rode dale speed to pricey and bankrupt anyway,Any input about these 2 would help, Last question piped EX faster than a stock Z??

 

The only thing I will say-


raced a friends new 400ex with (white bros?) exhaust and re-jet, was seemingly even.

I do think the 400exs, especially after pipe/jet feel good n meaty in the low to mid range. They just seem to stop pulling after that though (to me).

Just buy whatever one YOU want. If you dont LIKE reverse- or hate suzukis- or are a die-hrd honda fan- or just like red- etc.

I ride a '03 LTZ, and have never had intentions of modifying the engine really. Its plenty fast enough to me. Now if I rode with guys with modded stuff alot it might be different. But It hangs just fine with other stock quads and even modded ex's, so no big deal.

The ex has been out unchanged for like 5 years, so they are dependable.

 

Thanks for some help!!! The Reliability issue is a bigger deal than water cooled or reverse, and our suzuki dealership sucks compared to Honda I am leaning to YELLOW thats EX Yellow,Thanks Again!!

 

A little off topic but on what binford said. Mine feels more torquey than a z but the z has more top end. If you add a cam it helps the ex's top end.

 

I'm not going to say which to buy because I can't even decide. Just remember that Honda just bumped up their carb to 38mm from 35.5mm. Z400 is 36mm. Just a thought. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

 

Get the Suzi. Here's why: The more buyers who bail from the 400EX, the more pressure on Honda to get a new, competitive model to market. Also, the Z is better in about every category, stock to stock, than the EX. Don't take my word, read all the publications.
