250R gasket question
#1
Tried a search, but still need some answers.
I looked at a 86 and it had a metal head gasket, I assume the gasket is for the 88-89, as it's quite thick (.020" approx).
Question is, why do you run the metal gasket? Durability? Can you re-use it? Higher compression? WIll it hurt running it?

DIfferent companies make different types from metal, copper, fiber etc. They all serve the same purpose . It is really up to you and what your local mech likes the best. They come in different thickness thus the thinest help to increase the comp. in the cylinder. Remember that if you have had any head mods done and you use to thin a gasket your compression will be high enough that you will have to run race fuel and not pump gas. I have used both metal and fiber ( which i prefer) with head mods and a 30 thousands and run 195 lb of compression at the cold start and believe me when you stall it when racing you have to really stand on it to get it turned over. If you do decide to use a metal gasket you will also have to use some type of sealant between both the head -gasket and cylinder-gasket . In my opion i would not reuse an old gasket as a 10 dollar part can cause several dollars damage.

my neihbor uses gaskets out of a Cr250 in his 86' 250r 3 wheeler, they are metal outsides with like something else in the middle, he tears the two peices apart and only uses the too REALLY thin metal peices, you can ALWAYS reuse them, just every time you tear it apart, clean the metal gasket and spray paint it on both sides.
