Default trx250r on the servicehonda.com page???

i was just on the servicehonda.com website and they are advertising a trx250r quad. whats up with that? it appears to be a 400ex chassis modified with the 250r 2 stroke. i was just wonderin if this is a kit that was being offered or are they selling the whole quad? they mentioned it is new fer 2004 also. anybody know anything bout this? thanks, nathan.

I remember someone posting a message that there was something in ATV Rider magazine about a 250R in a 400EX frame.

I think you can buy the whole thing or have a motor put into another quad. It says that it's only 310 lbs.

They sell the complete quad for $8100 I believe. I have an ATV Illistrated magazine that has a short test of it. They use a brand new CR 250 motor with some mods to the clutch & FMF custom makes the pipes for them, & you can get them in either red or yellow.

It is basically a brand new Fourtrax 250R.

Service Honda is making a new CR500(AF) using the CR250's aluminum frame and CR500 motors.
They now have tons of brand new CR250 motors laying around.
They are putting these motors in the 400EX frame. (with mods to keep the vibrations down, ect)

I don't know....Isn't the R frame geometry still better than the 400ex? At least for handling anyway? Or are they actually the same. I thought the EX sat higher and didn't handle as good as the R. If that's true I wonder why they didn't just use the R frame and plastic. Especially since they are calling it a trx250r. I would consider buying one then.

Blue,

400ex frame = in production; cheap

250r frame = not in production; not cheap

Ok it makes sense now. I was just pricing frames on their site and the R frames are anywhere from about $850 to $900 (depending on year) and the EX frames are only about $450. Still, if I was to buy one I would pay the extra for a true 250r chassis.
