FMF vs. Supertrapp
#1
I am in the market for a silencer for my 2000 400ex. I have looked at Big Gun (to expensive), WB E-Series (to loud), FMF Powercore 4 squared S/A and Supertrapp IDS S/A. It is down to the FMF and Supertrapp. Which is the quitest and gives the most for the money? Db sound readings on any? Anyone have these pipes?
Thanks to everyone for the input!

Where did you here that the e series was too loud?I have one on my 99 and purchased the quiet core because I heard the same, but after I installed it it was not nearly as loud as the FMF or Supertrapp IDS 2 and I have never taken the quiet core out of the pack.No one I know with the E-Series has ever been disapointed. The IDS 2 is extremely loud so you should probably stay with the FMF if those are your only choices.

I have the e-series silencer but if I were you I would consider going with the new Pro Circuit silencer. The Pro Circuit is only $190 and looks well made and light weight. My e-series is almost as heavy as the stock silencer, is way loud(14 discs) and had to be repaired after three months due to a broken weld on the mounting bracket. I bought the quiet core insert but found it choked the exhaust and sounded like crap.
I don't know anything about the SuperTrapp but I can see how that might be a bit quieter than a standard disc type silencer. I think that any aftermarket silencer is going to be noticably louder than stock. If sound is a big consideration for you then stay with the stock silencer and spend your money on some other modification. If you have a '99 400EX you can modify the stock silencer to flow nearly as well as an aftermarket silencer (search archives for details). You might want to find a '99 silencer that some one replaced and modify it, you could probably get one real cheap.

Have the fmf powercore sqaured two and it has to be the one of the quietest after market pipes out there. Increases bottom end huge and mid I can do 4th gear wheelie on sand with my 2000 400ex. Still playing with jetting running 40 pilot, raised needle on notch, Main is 160 going to try 155 see what happens think I might be to rich or lean it looses its top end pull. Want power bomb waiting let you know.
