I would have loved to see a quad with a 200x motor and a quad with the 350x motor.

There is a quad with a better engine than an ATC350X - it's called a TRX400EX.

There is also a quad with a better engine than an ATC200X - it's called a TRX250X or TRX300EX.

Honda did, however, use the 250R 3-wheeler engine in a quad, it's called a TRX250R.

Honda actually made a prototype TRX200x quad a long time ago. It looked like a 250x/300ex except that the front hood and gas tank cover wrapped over the top of the handlebars. So it kinda looked like the bars were sticking out of the plastic (very unique).

The 350 X engine was used in Hondas first 4wd atv the 86 350 Foreman. I have an old 86 350 Foreman thats been beat but it has way more power than my brothers Rancher. Personally I feel they should have used this engine in the Rancher instead of that POS 2 valve engine. I don't know of any Race atv using the 350X engine but it does well in my 350 Foreman.

i think the timing was off. honda seemed to have switched its focus to sport quads after the 3 wheeler lawsuit dilemas. my old man and his old man were big into the sand in those times and knew a lot of people that sued Honda. the pattern of bad judgement and alcohol intoxication didnt seem right but ambulance chaser lawyers saw a chance to make some money sort of like the cigarette law suits. someone mentioned that also had to do with the death of the TRX250 but i dont know much about that. i believe the 86 TRX and ATC R's prove that they definately had big plans to put these engines in quads and ATC's alike. If you want a TRX200X go to Mexico. Honda sold them down there. It looked exactly like a 200X with a quad front end grafted on. My brother saw one while on vacation and I saw a pic of one in a magazine years ago.

That is not true at all.

I have a 350X and two 400EX's I've been deep in both engines many times. My immediate family has owned 5 or 6 350X's over the years. Some were bought brand new.

The 400EX is a superior engine. Reliability is the same for both mainly due to their design being so similar - if nothing else, the 400EX tolerates modifications a touch better than the 350X does before chucking the rod thru the front of the case. It's become well known over the years that the 350X has a weak connecting rod. Other things the 400 has that are better include --- better head design, larger ports, larger intake and exhaust valves, more effiecient combustion chamber, more aggressive cam, larger carburetor, accelerator pump, a longer stroke, and a larger bore.

I fail to see how people think that the 350X developed more power with these hard *FACTS*. On the dyno the 350X is about 5hp down from a 400EX. Stock for stock, they run close in a drag race due to the weight difference - until the top end, then the 400 has a slight advantage.

The 350X was one of my favorite rides of all time, but I, unlike some, I don't allow that to cloud what it was, and what it wasn't.

I have the 1986 250R with a Astro Conversion Kit. It has been very dependable, its light, and it almost keeps up with the Banshees my friends ride. I just invested in Works Shocks for the front end and recently bought new tires for the rear. Unfortunately, I smacked a tree and broke a spindle. Since Astro is (gone?) I am wondering what to do. I love this quad and am willing to keep it running, but not as a trike. I have broken the front A arms in the past and they have been welded. It would be nice to replace them as well. What makes this quad so fun is that the front is wider than the rear. Very stable and much fun riding sideways down mountain roads. Can anyone Help? I need some leads. I called Rocky Ridge Racing Chassis Tech, but the Ph. # on the Web is incorrect.
