I have a 97 300ex 86 trx250r my dad has 87 LT500R and we also have a 97 warrior. the 300ex is a excellent ride I have a large flattrack I throw some razr's and Itp .190 off my 250r on the ex and roost away I personally hate the stock tires so I opt for the razr's any way it puts out almost oa good lap times on my ex as I do my 250r the ex is a excellent excellent ride also my cousin has a 400ex and it is a very impressive performer and I would rather have it than my 300ex. but when I just want to play I ride my ex when I race I ride my 250r and when I want to go fast I hope on the old zilla and roost majorly. any way if U want a excellent machine get the 300ex if U want the faster of the 2 get the 400ex oh yea I am 6 ft 135 pounds.

250 thumper,
i think you should get a ds 650. just kidding! i think you could easily handle a 400EX. i am 16 and weigh 135lbs. i got my 400EX september 1st and i bet i didnt weigh much over 110lbs. i had a lil trouble handling the unit at first but i hadnt rode for about 5 months because i sold my 300 ex to buy the 400 ex. it only took me about a week to get back into my groove, and now im winning harescrambles again. if you get a 400EX just dont give it all it has when you first get it. work your way up to reamin on that thing or else you'll knock yourself on your ***.
i ride a 2000 honda 400EX with maier purple plastic, purple renthal bars, black seat cover, motion pro twist throttle, prm full body skid plate, prm swing arm skid plate, prm front bumper, 22 inch blackwaters on rear, and in the mail are graydon proline aluminum nerf bars and 20 inch turf tamers. dont make fun of the color until after you have seen it. go to www.angelfire.com/stars/stuff4 click ATV PICTURES then click HONDA ATV PICTURES.

O.K., this is just my opinion...the 400ex is nice but get real...an air cooled radial valve head..That's still early 80's technology if I'm not mistaken...5 speed tranny?? Honda could have and should have done a lot better. If I was going to buy a quad just for high performance reasons, I wouldn't even consider a 400ex, It'd be a 250R without a doubt. Some of you people crack me up..LOL..Have you ever ridden a well set-up 250R?? Probably not.

I've ridden 250r's and banshee's, and if I ever rode as fast, and as hard in the places that i ride my 400ex with one of those 2 strokes, I'd probably kill myself. The ex is actually, (In my opinion) a good quad for someone who has at least a little bit of experience with a clutch. It's power is predictable, and it handles extremely well. I also feel that it is faster in the woods than an R or a banshe. If you've never ridden a quad in your life, then a 300ex would be the choice. If you have some experience, then definatly the 400ex. What's nice about the 400 is that you can take it easy (4 stroke power), but when you really want to crank it up, the power is there. My friend never had a quad in his life, and knew nothing about them, when he went shopping for the first time. The dealer told him that a banshee is the best deal for him, HAHAHA, but then he consulted honda dealers, and i gave him some advice, and he narrowed his decisions down to a 400 or 300 ex. He ended up with the 300, and it has enough power for him, plus it's very easy to learn on.
The difference between the 400 and 300 is power and speed. The 400 is extremely faster (stock), and it has more upgrade options for later. I ride my 400ex alot, and i've ridden my friend 300, and i feel more confrontable on the 400ex, i guess because i'm used to it. The 300 feels sluggish to me. just my $0.02
have fun!
ohhh, if you want to know, i am 15, 5'7 165

ok people heres the deal!!!!!!!! a 400ex is faster than a 300ex but.... all this weekend I've been riding with this guy on a 400ex with a big gun pipe and this other guy on a 300ex with a cobra pipe... we were riding on fast trails with jumps.... I was keeping up with them on my stock 300ex no problem. you just gotta ride a little harder.... anyways you'll be happy with either one. later

If a 300EX is too fast at a very brisk 55 mph then a 400EX is too much 250 Thumper. I own a 97 300 EX with supertrapp pipe, uni filter, ac bumper, twin row carrier, lonestar axle, and holeshot xc's. Itwhips my neck pretty good!Iweigh 148 at 5'8", and mostly trail riding with big jumps. ILUV my 300

250Thumper,
Good choice on the 300EX. Since you're still kind of little, a 300EX would be much better than a 400EX. I have a 400EX, and I'm 5'6" and 150 lbs. It's a lot of power, but I have been riding for many years.
The 300EX is a good four-wheeler. You will have plenty enough power with it for a good while. You won't grow enough in one year to outgrow it. If you want more power when you get older and bigger, there are many ways to do it. There is a guy at the local race track that I talked to, and he was about 5'8" and a 160 lbs. He was beating 400EX's, 250X's, and other bikes like that. He only has mild modifications to the engine, and he was flying!
Good luck with whatever you buy.

Buy the 400ex. I have a 300ex, and i always wondered how much cooler it would have been if my dad bought a 400ex or a banshee instead. I like the 300, but lets face it, the only ligitimate difference it has from the 400 is reverse, and for 3 years i had both a blaster and a 300ex, and the fact that the blaster didnt have reverse never became a huge problem. Just get the 400ex, if you dont i assure you that when you're 6 feet and 160 pounds and you start wondering why 5th gear wont pull you like it used too, or why that kid on the 400ex makes you look dumb, you will regret ever buying a 300ex.
-be your own person though.

All Know is that I ride with a guy that has a 400ex and i own a 300. WE ride trails, Ican keep up with him all of the time and some times (most of the time) I can beat him. Lets face it you dont ever go 78 mph in the tails, and if you do WOW because that is awesome!! I dont have any mods and I know fr a fact that a 300 is and over all better trail machine. Were not going down the road were riding in the woods. If you want the best trail machine for something like 8 years, and even when the 250x was out they are the best trail machines everso i would get a 300ex if I were you. And if its the thing about handling a 400 you c an its easy. 2 strokes are kind of hard to handle because of the power band but not the 400. the 300 is better at hills, mud, water and many more things. so if I were you I would get a 300!
