Need to adjust clutch
#1
Fellow Honda owners,
Please let me know if this is the correct procedure to adjust the clutch on a TRX 300.
1. Loosen the locknut and turn the adjustment
screw clockwise until you feel resistance.
2. Turn the adjustment screw counter-clockwise
until you feel resistance.
3. Tighten the locknut.
Thanks.

Altho I don't ride a Honda, most makers advise about 3/8 play in the clutch lever between the lever and the perch itself. Personal preference can dictate some variation in the exact amount of play. Your reference to resistance has me somewhat confused as there is a certain amount of it regardless of which way you turn rhe adjuster due to it being connected to the cable.
Your owner's manual should give you the procedure & the specs on clutch adjustment.

On my 95 300 fourtrax my owners manual says:
" 1)Make sure the ignition is off
2)Loosen locknut, and turn the clutch adjuster counterclockwise until you feel slight resistance.
3)Then turn the adjuster 1/4 turn clockwise, and tighten the lock nut to hold adjuster in this position.
4) After adjustment, start the engine and test drive to be sure the clutch is operating properly."
Hope this helps it is straight out of the book.

Nathan,
I own a Bayou 220 as well and the procedure I posted is what appears in the Kawasaki manual. As you can see, the steps were quite similar with the exception that Honda recommends you adjust the screw back (clockwise) a 1/4 turn. I tried it with my Bayou and found it shifted much easier.
