Default 440 vs 416

I was wondering which is all the way around faster (bottem end & top end), 440 or 416 kits. I just asked this because a lot of people say a 416 will beat a 440.

It probably will..... A good 426 kit is faster than all of them including the 440's. The 426 kit is the ONLY way to go IMHO because I have a friend who is literally a Honda genious and he bulids up fast honda's for a living.... Just my 2 cents.

i guess it depends on whos 440 kit you get and what else you hve to go with it. we have a sparks 440 with his cam, valves, cam chain, je 12.5 to 1 89mm piston and a 416 dont even come close to this quad.

kc call the builders they will be the ones to get the answers from, did you call powroll like i told you? i'd also call sparks and a few of the others. for all out speed sparks might be the way to go but i seem to remember somebody doing a lot of duning. i can tell you that you would be very happy with a 416 stroked, it was pretty fast and you know they only get faster, it has something to do with dailing them in. as you know i left the stock cam no head work and no carb, so there is a long ways to go, and with that mild set up it was with bigslim. and that was at the jetty and you know how hard it is for alex to keep that quad on the ground.

My local honda dealer (fred's honda) said it would be around $400 for the 416 pistion, gaskets, the right jeting, and shop laber. I think thats a good deal, am i wrong?

Honestly, no thats not a good deal. Know why? because your just gonna have a 416cc 400EX.
16cc's more isnt going to make any difference. (slight)

You will NOT be happy. I did the exact same thing, only a 440. It made a decent difference,
but without the cam, carb, ect.. your just upping the CC's and that doesnt make a world of difference.
(especially only going from 400 to 416)

If you wanna build a killer, go with a 440, plus all the goodies. (cam, rev box, high compression, porting)
It will be fast.

A 400EX bored out to 416 probably wont even make the same power increase as piping it did.
Its the combination of mods that does the job.

call and get a dyno showing the difference of the 416 us the 440, the 440 doesn't rev as fast as the 416 ans in the sand you want it to rev, so i might pick the 416 over the 440 and anytime you up the compression it helps, so what is the problem young guys have to start somewhere and a 416 seems like a good place. oh and all the parts are 235 so what does that leave for labor the bore is about 60 so i'd say it is worth what is left those guys have to eat also.

Yeha thats a good deal...
What compression are you going to run?
I have seen a .040 bore with cam and head work, with 13:1, hang with a 440 with same and a 11:1.
I think its a good choice to start, you have some bores left in the stock sleve, and you can drop a hot cam in later, get the head worked over after that.

Go for it!!
Good Luck!

Did any of you guys read my post?

Making a stock 400EX a 416cc 400EX ISNT GOING TO DO ANYTHING.

You have to go all out. (cam, porting, carb, rev box)

You WILL be dissapointed. I was bummed when I got my 440 (!!!) back together! (no cam, porting ect)
A 416cc bore with nothing else? A stocker will run right next to it.

Just wait. You'll see.
