Bought a '01 Recon couple months ago ($2,000) - good deal?
Getting new tires for it, recommendations?
What modifications should i get for it?
mostly woods/trail riding w/ some mud (on good days)
any ideas would be great..
thx,

There isn't a whole lot of things you can do to the recon but there are a few things. You can get a high flow air filter, jet kit, high performance exhaust, clutch kit and you can enlarge the hole in the snorkle to flow more air. The companies that make air filters are K&N, UNI and TwinAir. The exhaust are a Supertrapp IDS2, FMF Powerline and a couple of other companies make an exhaust for the recon. EBC is the only companie that makes a clutch kit for the recon. I would suggest the K&N air filter, dynojet jet kit, and either the FMF or supertrapp exhaust. As for tires I really like my bearclaw tires for sporty trail riding and mudding. They also have pretty good wear and handling.
As long as you change the oil on a regular basis and clean the sir filter once in a while your recon should last you a long time. When you change the oil there is no oil filter, all you have to do is drain it and then filll it back up. Also change your differential oil once in a while.
BTW-Those prices in my PM are canadian prices.

thx for the info 01redrecon, i'll look into it.. I think it might have a K&N air filter now that I think of it.. I know it outruns my neighbors 300 foutrax, off the line and pretty much until top end.. he starts to catch me slowly ... DaSandBomb - dont know if want to go that far .. yet

I did a K&N, FMF MegaMax II, and vented the airbox lid, and of course a rejet. This perked the little engine up quite a bit!! You may not want to vent the airbox if you ride real wet conditions???? Or, take a look at the end of the snorkle. The opening is about the size of a nickle. You may want to open it up for more air.
I just got new tires for ours, and guess what? After careful consideration, I got the same OEM tires!! My reason, the original stock tires have preformed flawlessly. I didn't want to risk altering the bikes excellent handling with some other tires.
