Honda Rincon or Prairie 650?
Evening Gentlemen, and Ladies,
A little tip to maybe help get a non locking front through a few of those (wish it locked situations). Learned this in a pickup from my uncle or someone years ago. If a pickup didn't have positrac, he would apply the parking brake just enought to slow the spinning wheel and would help the non spinning wheel to spin. A little hard maybe on the brakes but in a need be situation it has worked. Now on the same grounds, applying the front brakes just enough to slow the spinning wheel this should cause the other wheel to work. I have a Rancher 2003 but haven't had it in a situation yet to see if it helps.
Just an idea to try in some situations may work may not, should.
Let me know

I had the chance to try it many times on my 2000 Kodiak and it never worked. The Honda front Diff is another animal. I whatched a Rincon climb a steep wet sandy bank with both tires digging and then my old Kodiak just behind him never even tried to dig with both. The new owner was pulling the front brake and it just bogged the whole machine down. I told him that is why I was selling it. I used to like that machine.

My best friend has both machines. The Prarie has more power and is sooo smooth. The Rincon seems slightly down on power for a 650, and the transmission in automatic mode shifts like an '82 civic, but the ride quality is enough to sell me on the machine. Put it in ESP manual shift mode and go anywhere you have the balzz to go.

My buddy has the Rincon and we ride mostly in the mud. He hates the fact that is 3 wheel drive. The dealer told him that it wansn't going to spin the wheel that's not in the mud but I have seen it do it several times. I would go with the Prairie if you ride in alot of mud. That's what i'm leaning toward right now.

I was riding around in 4X4 all pop-eyed about the steering and did not know it.
I am still torn between the two and will read something about one and think that is the one I want and then read something about the other and change my mind. I really like the drive shaft feature of the Rincon I am in the air about the tranny and lack of front diff. lock. I am concerned about the lack of power I have heard about. And it sounds like it has a great ride but I am skeptic of the IRS. I am coming off of a Raptor and would like to keep some resembleance of power. In that aspect, the 700 has more power but I don't think I like the belt drive. That is about all I can fault the Prairie with. I am going to make another post and see what comments I can get. No one on the Honda side seems to comment about the lack of front diff. lock up. I am sure no one likes to get stuck in mud but it is a fact that it is going to happen. I would like to have some advantage if I have a choice.

Wow I just happened to pop over to the Honda thread. I am subscribed to this thread but have not received the message.
The Rincon was the quad I was refering to on the easy steering.
With my Toe set to Zero and the ATR's for tires it is MUCH better and with well under 100 hours it is getting better.

Hey guys/gals,
Give this a thought. Over the past couple weeks or three on ATVtelevision they did test on the big bore machines. The one they raved about the most seemed to be the Yamaha Grizzly 660 they spoke very highly on just about every aspect including the locker. So you might consider the Yamaha also. Just a thought, I don't know about any of them I have a Rancher 350, all stock and it will out pull all of them. HAA!!! calm down just funnin....

Here! Here! I agree! My one greatest phobia is the off camber trail rollover, it gets steep where I ride. The Prairie with it's lower center of gravity and near even front to rear weight distribution is one of it's biggest feature I can appritiate. That is another reason I'll stay with 25" tires. My 2000 Kodiak was never as stable in a lean as my P650.
