I'm personaly affraid of synthetics. Used it once in 1100 Suzuki and once in a Honda 300 4 wheeler and both times had to put in a new clutch. Both suzuki & Honda were not very old, S.- 6mo.------H.-1yr.

There is a very, very, small difference between Honda GN4 and currently produced automotive oil. It will most likely never make a difference in your ATV. We use Valvoline 4-Stroke ATV Oil. It is SF/SG rated like Honda recommends plus it contains friction modifiers for the clutch. It costs twice as much as regular 10-40 and is 1/2 as much as GN4, $2 a quart. I was told by a reliable source that Honda GN4 does not have the friction modifiers for the clutch.

The first 3000 miles on our Rubicon we used Valvoline All-Climate 10w40 oil. When Valvoline came out with their ATV oil, it went in on the next oil change in both our ATVs.

Mobil 1 15-50 for my 400ex. Using it for 6 months, so far no problems. Other than burning oil, which is more my fault. I sunk it a couple times and needs a rebuild.

Here is a hint for you, the oil is not manufactured by Honda, it's contracted out to w/e company will manufacture it the cheapest for them. They slap their logo on it and sell it for a ridicolous price, you're better off going with a brand name oil.

I run Castrol Syntec 20/50 in summer and 10/40 in winter. Dad's 95 foreman that must at least have 14k miles on it has used this oil since it was new and so has the 96 300 4x4 that we have. I ride my rubicon hard but I change my oil every 600 miles and it's closing in on 4000 miles very soon now, and the motor is like new. I would also recommend Valvoline, it's another very good oil.

The best deal around for oil is Wal-mart branded Super Tech oil.

Its Quaker State, but the only one without friction modifiers is 10w40.
