I have a 87 250x I got apart to put different rings and cam bearings in. My qustion is does it matter how the top 2 rings are pisitioned the gap? Second how do i get the cam timing set??

far as rings go doesn't matter as long as there not both open together in a row
cam timing is easy if you've done it before but you should put in a new cam chain before assy.
all you have to do is pull the plugs out on the flywheel side and set the "T" mark up with the notch in the case (flywheel cover"
then you install the cam and put the gear on so that the dot is to the top and then bolt the cam back on and recheck
now the ones that I have worked on it is possible to set the cam one tooth either way I usally went on the advanced side
you should all so replace the intake valves they are usally pounded out
good luck get back out riding
