Drag race 300ex
Has anyone ever tried to turn a 4wheeler into a drag racer.
I have a 300ex frame and im thinking of turning it into a drag on road racer at the local drag track.
This is what im thinking. 300ex frame, extending the swingarm, 500cc motor, soft flat track tires, keeping the 4wheeler as low as possible to the ground, making it as arodynamic as possible, removing the rear brake, removing any xtra metal as possible for weight, using an older air cooled 500cc motor. Does this sound crazy or fun? Any suggestions would help good or bad. Ive got 2 off road 300exs im not giving that up just something to do.

Sounds fun, not crazy!
What type of 500cc engine did you have in mind? A single cylinder dirtbike engine or a multi-cylinder streetbike engine? Either way, if it's a drag track I'd go with straight pipes and no air filter (it's a paved track, right?).
As for the anti-sway, I wouldn't bother, I'd just remove the front shocks and replace them with steel tubing of some kind. That would make lowering it a lot easier. I'd say do the same on back, but the squat the shock would provide might get you off the line a little quicker. Just add a lowering strut, or, if you're going to extend the swing-arm just move the shock mount to lower it.
As for the swing-arm and gearing, I don't really know. At first I would build a wheelie bar and see if that works before extending the swing-arm. The gearing is something you'd have to play with to see what works.
Good luck with it!

Yea its an 1/8 of a mile asphault drag strip. Id like to go with a single cylinder only because i know how to work on them and im not sure if anything else would fit in that small of a frame.
The only reason i was wondering about the anti sway was because im not sure of what kinda speed id hit and would worry about speed wobbling been there done that its not fun.
Ive got a lowering bracket for the front shocks but taking them off could reduce weight as well.
Id probably be able to run with the pro stock cars and maybe some of the stock smaller street bikes but not real sure i might get crushed lol
Thanks

I suggest putting in a Ski-Doo engine. Ski-Doos/snowmobiles go faster than fourwheelers as it is and they are a heck of a lot heavier. Putting a ski-doo engine in your ATV will make it rule on the track. I suggest putting in an 800cc twin Ski-Doo engine. All Ski-Doo engines (except newer models from 2004) are 2-stroke, so you have approximately 1600cc's of power (a little less). But you would use the belt and pulley system that the ski-doo uses. Put the drive pulley on where the rear sprocket would go. Hit the gas and you'll fly. Be careful not to pull a wheelie right over yourself.
Forget the 800cc engine. Look for a 500cc. 800cc is way too much. I read in dirtwheels that a guy put a polaris snowmobile 600 triple into his ATV.
