Default Information about the TRX250R

I know it's been said a lot of time but I still need to know. What are ALL The difference you know about the different years R (86-87 and 88-89)? Engine, Frame, Everything. BTW, will some 88-89 fenders fit on a 86-87 because I heard the 88-89 are really rare here but I find the red 88 really cool. Thanks

ok i dont usually do this for non 250r owners so consider your self lucky.

1- The 86 and 87 250R swing arm was metal and was 2 inches longer than the 88-89's.
2-The a-arms on the 86-87 were slightly diffrent then 88-89
3-The 86 motor had a short rod and diffrent piston. The 87-89 had a long rod.
4- The frames were slightly diffrent between the years and had diffrent motor mounts. The 86 was the steardest of all. The 86's motor mounts were mostly the most diffrent because the rear motor mount hooked up to the swing arm.
5- The plastic is diffrent. 86-87 had a flat hood with the light mounted to the handlebars. The 88-89 had the light built into the plastic.
6- THe jetting was diffrent between the years and such and the spark plug was diffrent and little stuff

O and by the way the diffrent year fenders were diffrent but they will still fit, but they may need to be riged up a bit. Just look at my 250Rs fenders all 86's

In my opinion and alot of other peoples the 86 was the best motor because of the short rod. They rev faster and higher and had a harder 2-stroke hit. The 87-89 had more tourque because of the long rod.

i have an 86 in excellent, almost mint cond that has very few mods and it totally rips. it has been known to blow away newer R models and many other bikes. although, i must admit, if i would had the chance to get a mint 88 model - i would have.....but since i got the 86 and working with it and knowing what i know now about it, i think the ultimate R is the 86 engine with the 88 looks and possibly (if you need it) the 88-89 revised dimensions. i like the 86 dimensions better though - it handles great for me.
