Default I need help on a repo 2002 Kodiak

I have a chance to buy a 2002 Kodiak that has been Repo'ed. My buddy runs the agency that is selling it and he says it is making a grinding from the front end when he drives it around the yard. I asked in the yamaha forum but I like this one a better. Does anyone have any experience with the kodiak's? I have never even seen one up close before? Any probs you have heard about?

Thanks

Kodiaks are not prone to any specific problems like the Raptor with the starter one-way bearing. Chances are, it has a bent brake rotor, no brake pads, or a rock stuck in the brake mechanism. Sounds like a good opportunity to pickup a steal.

Thanks for the input. I'm not too crazy about the belt drive but if I can get it for a steal then I would be really happy. I'm heading to the US on thursday so I will have to stop by and look it over if I can.

You wouldn't happen to know the top speed of the Kodiak? If it will keep up to a rubicon then I think I could be happy with it.

My 2000 Kodiak 400 eats my buddies Rubicon up on the dragstrip. Top speed of the Kodiak (mine, at least) is 52 mph on a flat, dry, paved road.

It's a great, overall machine.

Thanks quadfather. Have you had any problem with it yet? I guess they are a decent machine? If I can get it cheap I think I will buy it but if i goes for much over 2000CAD then I think I will leave it. It is not in perfect condition so I bet the last owner beat it. If they didn't have money to make the payments then I highly doubt they did any service work on it at all.

The only problem that I've had is a corroded choke spring, which I had to replace. I also got water and mud through my rear clutch exhaust, which I fixed.

Thanks for the input. I guess it runs and drives alright but the guy that repo'ed it doesn't know anything about ATV's. He said it has no brakes and the front push bar has been all smashed it. I am thinking the noise from the front is just metal on metal from the old brake pads. I get to check it out tomorrow.
