2004 Honda Rincon
#1
Hello everyone,
I recently sold my 2003 Kawasaki Prairie 650 due to harship. In a few months, I will be in a position to purchase another machine and was considering the 2004 Honda Rincon. Can you please tell me what your likes and dislikes are about this machine? Also, does it have good power? Is it easy to get the front end off the ground? and last but not least, what is the top speed of this machine?
Any input you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

I purchased a 2004 Rincon 3 weeks ago.
Likes good looks, lots of power, it WILL stand up on its back rack if you nail it,I found out the hard way!LOL Top speed so far 61 MPH with 250 lb. rider.I like the auto tranny and the 2wd/4wd switch.
The dislikes so far are the stock tires are not very good in deep mud.I am thinking about changing to 26inch mudlites.I have had no problems so far but then I only have 30 miles on it.

Hi OkiefromOklahoma,
Thank you for your response. 61mph is pretty fast. Is is true what it said in Dirt Wheels that the transmission shifts late?
Thanks again for your input.

I have a 2003 Rincon and love riding it. As for power, I think it is a little soft down low. I can wheelie pretty good as long as there is a little dip. My brother has a P650 and it will lift the front without any problems. As for top speed, the best I have seen is 98kph. I have 1,050kms without a problem. I really like the build quality, much better than my brothers P650. Engine braking down steep hills is weak and on occasion it will stall while ascending steep hills. This occurs when I back off the throttle. If I maintain a steady hand and comitt myself to the jump there is no problems. I really like the handling for such a big bike. I had a Z400 and while the Rincon is no match, it can surprise sport riders. Enjoy your purchase, what ever it is.

Hi Raybourque,
I know all about the Prairie 650, since I owned one. The top speed on it was 55 mph and that was with the EPI black secondary spring. It did have good power down low though.
The front end never lifted easy for me, I always had to tug on it a little, not that it's a big deal because it is a sport/utility quad.
What does concern me about the Rincon is that it has a rev limiter for reverse. The Kawasaki had the override button, which is nice. Is there a way you can disable the rev limiter for the Rincon or is there something on the aftermarket for this?
Thanks,

Not my machine 2004ds650,
It was a slug on top end. As far as torque, this machine could probably pull a mule..

Honda makes a good, reliable machine, but there are a few better machines out there than it and they come with a cheaper price tag. Test ride it and see how you like it, if money isn't a problem and you think you want it, go for it. Otherwise, look at some of the other machines also. got an 03 rincon myself with 1300 miles. Raced a p 650 last winter. The kawi got me off the line and got ahead about 10 feet or so, but after that I kept pace with him right up to 60+ mph. Top speed is very close on the two. I have seen 64 on mine but I think I was going downhill since I have only seen 62 since. Both nice machines. I like the tranny on the honda, it has a sporty feel to it. As far as the front end, it was light until I put on the winch. The 30 lb winch made a big difference. I now need a bump. But I fixed that with a pipe and K&N filter. Power is great now but I haven't decided if I like the additional noise yet!
